Florence's Duomo is the city's most iconic landmark. Capped by Filippo Brunelleschi's red-tiled cupola, it's a staggering construction whose breathtaking pink, white and green marble facade and graceful campanile dominate the Renaissance cityscape. First of all the statue of David (1501), symbol of Florence in the world and masterpiece of the Renaissance, carried in these areas in 1873 to protect it from the weather. The Campanile is a splendid example of Florentine Gothic architecture from the 1300’s (from outside).

The Basilica shelters the tombs of Michelangelo, Machiavelli, and Galileo and it is also known for its frescoes by masters such as Giotto. Piazza Santa Croce is one of the main squares located in the central neighborhood of Florence with the famous Leather Market.
