East End

From the origins of Cockney rhyming slang to the hipsters of Shoreditch via the curry houses of Brick Lane, this neighborhood is a proud representation of the vast melting-pot that is London. Notorious as the hunting ground of 19th century serial killer Jack the Ripper, it’s now home to London's best street art including Shepard Fairey and Banksy. The East End is alive with contradictions and colorful characters, and we’ll introduce you to our favorites, like the many vendors at Spitalfields Market. We’ll explore the streets and neighborhoods that will leave you wanting to stick around and mingle with the hipsters all afternoon.

Petticoat Lane Market

After meeting your guide by Liverpool Street Station, you will make your way to Petticoat Lane Market, a world-famous market established over 400 years ago by the French Huguenots who sold petticoats and lace from the stalls. It is known today for selling mainly clothes for men, women and children.

Artillery Passage

You will then visit Artillery Passage, where you will be offered a glimpse into 17th Century London. Despite the modern urban changes made, the conservation area will offer you a view into narrow lanes, passages and courtyards, where you will get a rare snapshot of the historic inner city.

Old Spitalfields Market

Next you will explore Old Spitalfields Market, one of the finest surviving Victorian Market halls in London. Built in the 1800s, the market was refurbished in the early 2000s and is now one of the city’s most unique shopping, eating and drinking destinations with an array of boutique fashion, design and lifestyle stores and distinctive restaurants.

Whitechapel

Afterwards you will walk through Whitechapel, the location of the infamous Whitechapel Murders of Jack the Ripper in the late 1880s.

Brick Lane

You will then visit Brick Lane, a popular location in East London. Running from Bethnal Green through Spitalfields all the way to Whitechapel, the street is known for its breweries and markets whilst also the home to a striving artistic community. Walking along, you will be able to enjoy all the impressive street art around you.

High Street

You will also walk along Shoreditch High Street, the old main street of Shoreditch. The street provides a perfect base for visitors looking to check out trendy bars and authentic restaurants and always has vibrant atmosphere.

We did the East End streetart tour with our guide Wesley on our fourth day in London and it was an amazing experience. Wesley showed us some real gems ranging from famous Banksy stuff to hidden dragon figures on poles. Every piece was backed by interesting facts and background stories about the artists, streetart in general and the history of the East End. I highly recommend this tour!

Becky was our guide, and she was awesome. Lots of knowledge and we saw a lot!! Loved it. Learned a lot about the history of the East End as well as street art.

We have taken a lot of guided museum tours over the past two weeks in Europe, but by far, our best guided museum tour was today at the British Museum by Matilda. She was great and made our visit very enjoyable! Passionate, knowledgeable, and very easy to understand. Her voice projects very well and was easy to hear. Matilda exudes her love of history, and this love is obvious in her presentations throughout the museum. She really has a way of bringing history alive and making it relatable to the present too. My wife and I highly recommend this tour, especially with Matilda.

Luis was very animated, knowledgeable, and interesting. He captured the history and the imagination of the displays and objects. He handled an alarm so gracefully. He insured our safety by communicating and positioning us near the exit.

Luckily, our group consisted of just my husband and myself. Becky took us to see the works of inspiring artists and showed us new places in London. Becky is charming and very enthusiastic. We had a great time with her! A visit to be recommended even if street art is not your cup of tea, Becky will make you appreciate it. :-)

Becky, our very knowledgable guide, was able to provide both a historical and artistic tour. This mix of the history of the East end and how art acts as part of a social movement was very impactful. Well done Becky!

This tour was a great mix of history and modern street art. Our guide, Becky, took us to so many spots we'd have never found on our own to point out epic street art that we would have never noticed. Her knowledge of the street art scene and history here is truly impressive. The street art here is always changing, with some pieces disappearing and others appearing, which means no two tours will be the same. We loved it!
