Your Itinerary

The Clutha Bar

One of Glasgow's best loved live music pubs, this Clydeside bar is covered with murals which showcase the diversity of the city's music scene through the years.

Britannia Panopticon Music Hall

Britain’s oldest surviving music hall, the venerable Britannia Panopticon is still a working venue. As well as hosting legendary Scottish performers such as Harry Lauder, this atmospheric, hidden gem has seen stage stars ranging from Cary Grant to Stan Laurel. At present, due to Covid, we do not have access to Britannia Panopticon although we can still tell you all its great stories.

Old Fruitmarket

The City Halls and Old Fruitmarket have been the location for many a memorable gig, including The Stranglers concert which led to punk rock being banned in Glasgow.

Tron Theatre

Now a leading theatre and concert venue, this building's history includes a devastating date with the notorious Hellfire Club.

Barrowland Ballroom

The Barrowland Ballroom is much loved by Glasgow gig-goers and its history is as colourful as the bands that have played here.

Barrowland Park

Barrowland Pathway artwork highlights many of the acts which have played its namesake venue. And from The Smiths and Simple Minds to David Bowie and Bob Dylan, we have brilliant stories about many of the big names who have played here.

St Andrews In The Square - Glasgow

A beautiful, 18th century church turned live music venue, St Andrews has lively links to the biggest names in Scotland's cultural history.

The 13th Note

We finish on King's Court where your guide will reveal our theories about why Glasgow evolved its own, unique music scene. From Postcard Records to The 13th Note and Mono Bar, this is an area rich in stories about Glasgow's past and present music scenes.

Great couple of hours spent on a Saturday morning, on the walking tour, probably made better with a sunny day. Very good and informative tour guide, really enjoyed actually taking time to notice the venues, as we have passed them hundreds of times and never took the time to take in what Glasgow has. Would definitely recommend this tour, for anyone with an interest in Glasgow’s history, the music interest is a plus.

Im a former/sometime music journalist, and I can say that Fiona's tour of Glasgow music history and present was unparalleled in its comprehensiveness and accessiblity. We did a private tour, so we got to ask more questions than we might on a group tour, but regardless, it was phenomenal and really insightful. A fantastic way for any music fan to explore Glasgow's importance to musich history!

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour! The visit to Britannia Panopticon was a revelation! My friends and I didn’t know it existed! Fiona, our guide was excellent and her knowledge and anecdotes made the experience so interesting and memorable. We would highly recommend this Merchant City tour and we look forward to doing The Golden Mile tour at another time.

This was an excellent tour and I would highly recommend. The tour guide Phil was exceptional in his knowledge of the Glasgow music scene through history to the current day. An easy and relaxed pace with lots of “stories” delivered in a way that left me feeling I had learned so much whilst being entertained.. only in Glasgow can you enjoy such wonderful “patter” The tour included a visit to the old music hall which was fascinating. I will definitely return to do the afternoon tour and would happily do this one again as there is so much more to learn and enjoy Thank you Phil .. a great wee turn

Arrived a few minutes late due to train running late and world cycling event taking place in city centre. Thankfully Phil the guide was still at the meeting point talking about the Clutha Bar etc. Phil the guide really knows his music and this is evident in this informative tour about Glasgow, the groups and the venues. The tour is at an easy pace and also stops at street art etc for photo opportunities. Next time we will do the afternoon tour but would happily do the morning tour again

This was a fascinating experience. I could have listened to Phil’s stories about music in Glasgow for several more hours and learned a huge amount during the tour. Both Phil and the other tour participants were really friendly and kind. I couldn’t recommend this strongly enough, whether you already live in Glasgow or are visiting. Absolutely superb.
