My husband and I have done many tours with João and they are always an amazing experience. We recently did the Monsaraz tour with some friends visiting from the USA with Joao’s colleague, Martin, as our guide. We had a wonderful day and even though this was my fourth time on this tour I learned a lot more! Martin was very personable and had lots of knowledge and fun/interesting facts about the sites we visited. It was a great day and our guests were very happy they had done the tour!

Great tour of towns in the Alentejo region. The small group tour provided an opportunity to get out of city into the countryside. Evora is picturesque and Monsaraz was charming with great views of the river and Spain. Our guide kept us engaged and provided insights into Portugal's history and culture. The tour was complete with a wine tasting.

This was our 2nd tour with Backcountry Evora Tourism tours and this time our guide was James ("Noo Noo). He arrived on time and we were lucky it was just the two of us with our guide. We rode in comfort through the beautiful countryside outside of Evora with interesting commentary along the way about Evora, tourism, cork industry and so much else. The stop at the family owned pottery business was special, getting to see the artisans at work and we purchased a few small items to take home making them even more meaningful.
We leisurely wandered the beautiful town of Monsaraz on our own, enjoying the small cobblestone streets, white washed buildings, the city walls and the bull fighting ring! After meeting up with our guide again, we had a very nice wine tasting at Ervideira Wine Shop. We sampled several of the wines and learned about the wine that they ferment under water. Getting to enjoy a glass of wine on the rooftop terrace with magnificent views was the best way to end the day. Highly recommend this tour and Backcountry Evora Tourism Tours

We rea;;u enjoyed our tour with Jao. He is very knowledgeable of the area around Evora, and we expecially loved the wine tasting and the visit to a local pottery, where we bought a jug and some cups. We will enjoy drinking our wine in our new cups!

The cromlech was so interesting and Monsaraz was just wonderful. Bonus for us - the other couple never showed so it was a personal tour. Also got to try some excellent wine and didn’t leave empty handed. Fabio was a great guide who shared so much information and really went above and beyond what we expected. Just an unforgettable morning.

With this being a private tour we were able to spend time where we were most interested. Our guide made sure to do his best on any request we made. He was knowledgeable and for us English speakers very understandable.

The first stop is at a pottery workshop, where we saw 2 potters at work at the wheel, as well as the later painting and dipping it in the liquid glass glaze. Then we visited the hilltop village of Monsaraz. This is an amazing pittoresk village which was abandoned in the 18th century, but has been nicely renovated with some people living there again. There is a pretty well preserved fresco of the good and bad judge, and a small castle. Finally, there is a wine tasting in the village. The guide is very knowledgeable, but also allows a lot of freedom. Monsaraz is not at all touristic, and we were nearly alone in the village.
