Lokoloko - Mountain Bike & Outdoor Tours

Starting point

Poiso

After a small briefing with tips and tricks about the tour and the mountain bike, the tour starts at Poiso (Alt.1400m) with a small and easy uphill.

Levadas

Moments later and after the guide's suggestion based on the skills of the riders, we have the possibility to ride in some easy single trails or to continue on the road and dirt roads until we get to the 'levada' (water-channel). From here (Alt.850m) it is a 20km relaxed ride along the 'levada' where we will be surrounded by a beautiful mixture of laurel, eucalyptus and pine trees.

Camacha

Near the village Camacha we stop for a cold drink and a light lunch in a very typical bar. After the stop, we continue our 'levada' that crosses through the colorful village of Camacha, before we start our final ride with more or less 10km of smooth road, all the way down back to the Lokoloko shop, that only requires the effort of fingers on the brakes, but always with a big view over the ocean.

We booked onto the MTB trail and the Sunrise experience, both were brilliant. Our guide for the MTB was Nunu (apologies if I've misspelt the name) who was both very experienced and knowledgeable, turns out he's a good photographer too as the photos we received after the ride were fantastic. Really good experience and very friendly staff at Lokoloko, we would recommend them to anyone who wants an adventure!

Girlfriend and I did both Mountain Biking with Lokoloko and had an amazing time. Average/Below average fitness and largely first timers to Mountain Biking, our guide Pedro was fantastic. When we visit Madeira again we will be booking another trip!

LokoLoko was recommended to me by a guy i ride with in the UK, so i booked 2 rides with them. I was looking for a couple of relaxed rides and that was what our guide Jimmy provided. Riding through the Levadas seeing the beautiful scenery and small mountain villages, stopping for coffee and cake (which was excellent) at a local bar. Jimmy was both friendly & knowledgeable as were the ladies in the office. Had an excellent time and would definitely go with them again.

So they dont get a group together and this means that you have to pay for a "private" tour? The driver and the quide where professionals, but if you book a tour 5 months before and they dont get a group together you have to pay x2?

We biked for about 15 miles through laurisilva forest, levadas, and mountain roads through the countryside with incredible vistas of the ocean. This was my first time mountain biking, and the trails are gnarly in some parts, but would highly recommend. The tour guide was fantastic.

Couldn't recommend this trip highly enough! Prompt transfer from Funchal to centre in the morning and then driven in the van up the hill to familiarise ourselves with our bikes. Jimmy, our guide, was very experienced and showed a lot of patience and kindness to our youngest (aged 12) who had a few jitters at the start. Fun and occasionally challenging trails. A great way to see some more remote parts of the island. Stunning views. Thank you!

We just spent 2 AMAZING days with LOKOLOKO Mountain Biking and Canyoning. This team of professionals are the best in the business including highly skilled guides like Jimmy (Enduro champion 2022) and Vitor (certified climbing guide). The owner Sittika and her team are extremely professional, knowledgeable and truly made us feel like family! If you're in Madiera, you need to go on an adventure with this company!

The tour started with a long drive up the mountain to a coffee shop. I could not believe it when our guide said, “We are going to start the ride with a little climb.” I had been off the bike because of winter in Michigan so it was a bit of a challenge. We started down and it was magic. Great variety of surfaces and pitch. Great fun and the guide put it all together for us.
