Stunning palace/museum. Great collection of art from Brueghel to Caracciolo/Batistello well hung and presented and the rooms themselves like the ballroom are extraordinary. The view over Naples from the promenade of the grounds is breathtaking. Would advise taking a taxi up there as it is quite a walk.

best check before going. These days Caravaggio is in Paris.... There are other things but then it becomes expensive. In the first room English translation is so dark that it is hard to read

Great museum. Many famous paintings by great masters. Unfortunately it was a hot day, they don’t have enough AC’s, so it’s not easy to enjoy.

While not on our itinerary, we visited the museum because of its proximity to our hotel. We were astounded by this excellent collection of art. Well worth a visit. Also thoroughly enjoyed relaxing on the grounds of the Royal Park.

Very confusing museum. Caravaggio paintings on loan but many other masterpieces to view. Timed access to the second floor / felt rushed. Beautiful gardens.

The exposure and education about artists I didn’t know about before was great. Our tour guide was so patient and responsive to all questions.

A surprisingly large museum with an eclectic collection of historical artefacts, including painting, iconoclastic artwork as well as ceramics. Having read some of the previous reviews it is clear that the museum have taken some steps to improve the organisation of the exhibits such as the "after Caravaggio" exhibition which is now very good and much more logically ordered. The organisation and information plaques generally could be better but the quality of the exhibits is stunning.  There was a guide book available for €12, but no free map or information leaflet explaining the exhibits which was a shame. Some of the labelling was very small print so you have to stop down to see who the artist was or title of the work.  There was a map on the wall which we were invited to photograph, but this wasn't easy to follow on our phones so we did our best to take a logical route around the museum. The toilets on the ground floor closest to the cafe were in need of refurbishment with 2 of the 3 cubicles having a broken lock.  However the toilets on the 3rd floor were much better. There are paintings here from the grand masters, Caravaggio, Botticelli, Titian, Van Dyke, Raphael, Michelangelo, Mattise and others. The works are spread across 3 floors so we easily spent 3 hours here including a stop at the cafe. There are nice large gardens here which are lovely for a stroll and a sit on a bench taking in the view of the historical house, especially on a sunny day. The cafe was good and inexpensive.   We sat outside as it was a sunny day and enjoyed our coffees pastries and water before we began our visit to the museum. We enjoyed our visit, there was a lot to see. I would allow at least 2-3 hours to have a good look at everything.

This former Bourbon palace is now squeezed in between the airport and several major road arteries through Naples, so it's lost some of grandiosity. Nonetheless the building itself and its park and gardens are still very beautiful. We visited these over several days, as they are extensive (in hindsight, it's best to hike up the hill only once), but never saw everything due to unexplained and un signalled closures. The painting collection is amazing and reflects when Naples was rich and the centre of European art, this is unmissable. Furthermore, the museum has some interesting sections showing how various influences wound through art. For fans of plats and guns, there is also an extensive collection of both, inherited from the long line of bourbon rulers. The gardens are subject to closure, but extensive and gorgeous. They are also free.

I enjoyed the permanent collection here (apart from the disappointment of Caravaggio's Flagellation being in the US) - but the highlight was the exhibition Napoli Napoli on lava, porcelain and music. It was so imaginatively done with the objects in dramatic, operatic settings with different music in each room. It is quite hard to describe but I loved it. Some of the old Palace rooms are stunning in themselves. The museum is set in parkland above the city. Don't miss the views over the city and out to the islands from the terrace. Getting there is not easy. We went up in a taxi and used a city bus to get back down. I read there was a shuttle bus but it turned out to be a hop on hop off red bus, too expensive just to get to the museum and back.

Not worth a visit due to the flagellation by caravaggio having gone to Texas on 1 march 2020. What is left also inaccessible as paintings being removed from walls and doors locked with paint smells behind. What is left to see is a first floor naples exhibition which has an audio guide and can only be described as very peculiar. Don't bother, trip was a waste of money and time.
