Your Itinerary

Louisiana Music Factory

Meet your guide, Keith (a Louisiana record man with more than 20 years of record business experience), at the Louisiana Music Factory on Frenchmen Street - the most musical street in New Orleans. Spend approximately 2 hours and a dozen songs while we walk through historic New Orleans 'faubourgs' (neighborhoods) - the Marigny, French Quarter, and Treme - spanning space, time and genres we learn 300 years of New Orleans Music & Heritage. The aural-visual walking tour is accompanied by Bluetooth speaker capability to provide musical accompaniment of the artists and locations along the tour. This is Keith's favorite record store - everything we talk about on the tour, you can get here!

French Quarter

Cross Esplanade then turn on Chartres Street and pay a visit to the boyhood home of Danny Parker. Along with his rambunctious and bawdy-singing wife Blue Lu, we learn how a single man can save New Orleans Brass Band heritage. Next are stops in the Place de Armes, Preservation Jazz Hall, a stroll down Bourbon Street to Mister New Orleans, and J&M Studios - the 'Home of Rock N' Roll.'

Preservation Hall

Sandra and Allan Jaffe visited on their honeymoon and found their life giving home at Pres Hall. Visit the gift shop and take a photo while here.

Bourbon Street

(Pass by)

At one-time Bourbon Street was the most musical street in the world! Cats like Louis Prima, Al Hirt and Pete Fountain blaring Jazz through the hot, wet night air. Saunter or sashay with us as we hear Basin Street Blues blowing on a Clarinet.

Louis Armstrong Park

Here you'll see the Louis Armstrong statue. While in the Treme, America's 1st African-American neighborhood, you'll hear about their influence in New Orleans music and heritage.

Congo Square

Stops in Armstrong Park include Congo Square.

Keith is really just the best tour guide you could ask for. His energy in infections, not only within the tour but throughout the whole city. So many people on the street know and love him and you can feel his love for them and his community. He's so knowledgeable about the city's history especially in regards to music and has a seemingly endless amount of personal stories on the matter. I would recommend this tour for anyone visiting NOLA but especially music lovers. You can't go wrong!

Keith was knowledgeable about not just music, not just history, but all the political and social trends that affected things throughout the last 100 years. He clearly enjoys sharing what he knows about New Orleans. It was just my husband and I on the tour so it was very personal—he took photos of us along the way and sent them to us, and we stopped for a beer at Jean LaFitte.

Fantastic tour FULL of information. If you want to learn about the history of music in New Orleans then this is for you. Our teenage son enjoyed it, so you know it was good. Keith is a great guide and will keep you entertained the entire time.

We enjoyed all the stories about the various musicians, the tour stops, the walk and the history. Hearing the music that went along with the artists was a great addition while we toured. We appreciated the coffee/restroom stop halfway through, too. Overall a unique experience and Keith made it a lot of fun. Both of our older teens thought it was well worth it!

Keith is a great guide, he has had so many wonderful personal experiences and it shows in his knowledge and enthusiasm. The tour started a little slow, but quickly got into rhythm and our whole family enjoyed it. Keith endeared himself to our kids 16 and 20 yrs old as he was genuine and easy to be around. It was like going to a stroll with an old friend who is excited to show you the things they love about their city, and the history that makes it special. He also took pics and sent us the play list for the tour.

I had a wonderful tour this morning with Keith and his encyclopedic knowledge of New Orleans’ superlative musical scene, both past and present. Not only that, he seemed to be personally acquainted with a sizeable percentage of the French Quarter’s current inhabitants, as we encountered them during our sojourn. I can’t guarantee you’ll experience the same perfect weather that we enjoyed today, but chilly rain or humid shine, you will spend two hours being educated, entertained and enriched.
