Uncle Sam's New York Walking Tours

High Line Park was once the High Line, an elevated freight railroad track that connected trains directly to factories and warehouses. In 1847 street-level railroads allowed freight trains to utilize Manhattan's West Side as their main thoroughfare. New York's "West Side Cowboys" assisted in managing the traffic, however because so many accidents occurred, the city and state of New York and the New York Central Railroad constructed the High Line as part of the Manhattan West Side Improvement Project. After the High Line was no longer used, it was commissioned into High Line Park. This two-hour walking tour of High Line Park takes you through the trendy Meatpacking District and into the Collier Publishing building, then along the 1.45 mile (2.33-kilometer) length of the park, which was once this elevated rail track. Your professional, knowledgeable guide will take you from the beginning of the Manhattan's West Side history through to the inception of the High Line, while identifying the unique plant life now inhabiting the former railroad tracks. This region has been developed with public art, and the native greenery has been incorporated with the long forgotten tracks to create a spectacular, dynamic park. You will see magnificent views of the New York City skyline as well as the Hudson River. You will also have the opportunity to visit the White Star Pier, where the survivors of Titanic disembarked, as well as the old Nabisco factory, where the Oreo Cookie was invented.

Do not book. This is a scam. We booked the High Line Walking Tour on 10th September 2023. Nobody from Uncle Sam’s Tours turned up for the tour and phone calls and messages went unanswered. We went to the company address (office block on 5th Avenue) but no trace of the company there and nobody had heard of them. From subsequently reading the reviews this is clearly not an isolated incident so why on earth is TripAdvisor still booking tours with this company.

Came from long island, Could not find meeting place. Called listed contact who answered. I explained situation and was told I would get a call back. No one called back. Called 3 to 4 times, voice mailed. Scammer...

The High Line Park was a terrific site in NYC. Enjoyable to walk on your own, or as part of a walking tour. This was a great idea to reuse railway lines to the enjoyment of all living or visiting NYC. About 1.45 miles long with flowers and new views at every turn. Includes some resting benches at various points to sit and rest or even read a book or enjoy people watching.

This is not a terribly long walk. It is much better than I expected . It is truly remarkable how they have developed this smoky of foliage on a raised train track. Very nice thing to do .

Judy_B

I did get a refund but no explanation. Waited around and tried to cal. Got through after about 15 minutes and get a polite refund. Pre virus experience with Viator good so disappointing

doubledeeLondonNW6

This is such brilliant idea making a garden on disused railway lines. Now that the greenery has matured, the area is teeming with wild life and birds with many shrubs and flowers attracting butterflies and other insects to the area. It is a nice country walk making your forget the traffic below.
