Shipyard Brewing Company

Founded in 1994, Shipyard is one the largest breweries in the State of Maine. The legendary partnership of Fred Forsley and Alan Pugsley of Shipyard Brewing, is not one to look past. Starting in Kennebunk as Federal Jack’s Brew Pub, Shipyard made their way to Portland in 1994 after they grew out of their space only a year later. Even now, with new breweries opening up all over Portland, they continue to be a huge player in Portland’s craft beer industry today.

Liquid Riot

This is the house that Novare Res Bier Cafe built, as that renowned Portland beer bar provided the impetus for its owners to open Liquid Riot nearby. Formerly known as In’finiti Fermentation and Distillation, this is one of the country’s few combinations of restaurant, brewery, and distillery in one place. The space is striking, with floor-to-ceiling glass separating the three sections so customers can ogle the producers at work. The beer is varied, and the spirits range from clear to brown, with many in barrels for the long haul.

This walk was my favorite thing about our trip. Pete, our guide, was very knowledgeable not only about beer but also history as well! I would 100% do this again next time we're in Portland!

Of our off Cruise tours, Jefe was a hit. A walk down the ocean front. Thank you and we enjoyed so much.

Even though the rain put a damper on the walk, the tour was a blast! The breweries we visited were great(nice beer selections )and our guide Peter was informative and entertaining! The time went by really fast. It was the best way to spend a rainy afternoon!

Our guide Peter was so knowledgable and friendly! It was great to learn the specifics of the history of local breweries as well as some Portland history. It was also nice to be able to try different varieties that we weren't familiar with. Was a great activity for a group of friends but would also be good in a business setting if applicable.

Although the guide was friendly, he provided very little information about the breweries or Portland history. It seemed like something we could have done on our own at a fraction of the cost. Of the 3 planned stops, only one of them seemed prepared and we were able to taste a flight of beers. One of the pubs had just done their “last call” and couldn’t seat us. Then we were taken to a place that was closed. There was a lot of wasted time wandering around in the rain.

Fun walk around Portland, with stops at 3 breweries along the way. Got a larger "taste" at each of the breweries than I've had on other tours. Knowledgeable and friendly guide.

Do not waste $87 to get 3 beers. The tour guide was nice enough but there was little talk of the history. The “brewery” is basically a restaurant where NO beer is brewed, but it was the best part of the tour. You got to pick a “flight” of 4 of their beers. The day was rainy and the place was packed since no one wanted to walk around. We were taken to a back table and told that we had to be out in 20 minutes. After getting our flights and tasting or chugging them some hot pretzel bites we’re brought and then it was time to go. We walked in the rain to the waterfront to a bar, Andy’s. The tour guide said they were “not prepared” for us and we sat in the back room and then were moved to the front. The tour guide said if we wanted we could scrap this stop and move to the next since they were short on staff. We stayed. We were each given a glass of beer that supposedly was named after the restaurant (no choice or tasting here). After sitting around talking to each other (all strangers) we were shepherded on to the next bar which also was not prepared for us. I heard the manager say it would be about an hour and a half before we could all be seated. So we were taken to a corner that had a shelf to put your beer on while standing and told this would be our space and we could order a beer from the counter. The tour guide was apologetic and said that what was planned by management and restaurant owners was not what could really happen. $87 a person?? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? I will be demanding my money back from Trip Advisor. DO NOT GO ON THIS “tour.”
