Ok. So this is harder than it looks. We went out when the tide was almost coming in and I almost didn’t make it. The staff were awesome. I fell off the kayak, got pulled under a couple times by the waves and was convinced i couldn’t make the trip. The staff were like yes you can we will get out there and then it will be easy! The first part was true. Lol. But it’s a difficult paddle if you’re an out of shape potato like I am. I made it to the caves and back. The tour guides were awesome, we had Lauren and Jesse. The caves… neat but a bit underwhelming. You don’t get to paddle around a cave system it’s just like a deep little grotto with strong current. Neat like I said but not easy and it’s only one cave. The tour guides have to help you get in and out by swimming you in. It’s not an easy paddle for a rank amateur. We did sea sea lions swimming and resting on the rocks. We went too early so it was overcast and the water was choppy. Supposedly when it’s calmer you can see leopard sharks and some of the other unique creatures there. If your an on the fence ocean person and out of shape skip it. If your a water baby and not a couch potato I highly recommend.

Collin was a great guide. He told us stories about the caves and showed us the four microbiomes. Our favorite part was kayak surfing back to shore! Definitely recommend!

Brody and Mariano did a great job leading the tour! The water was a little rough during our tour. Brody and Mariano did a great job keeping everyone safe.

Julie and Johno (sp?) were AMAZING guides during our La Jolla caves kayak excursion. They were super knowledgeable about the history of the caves and marine biology of the area. I highly recommend asking for them as guides.

our tour guide Brodi was amazing!! He was so knowledgeable about the sea life and history of the area and though my husband and I were a bit nervous to enter the caves we felt completely safe with him! Would totally do this again!!

We only did this to kayak in the caves and we never ended up doing so. They had us kayak around them. We sat around bobbing in the water a lot getting nauseous and not being able to hear the guides talking about the marine life. They also charge you $6 for a rusty small locker so if you’re a couple you need 2. Then if it’s cold you have to pay to rent wet suits so everything adds up fast. We could have rented kayaks on our own to have done what we did.

Kayak over to look at cliffs…and some caves. Everything viewed from quite a distance. Not interesting or engaging…I would not do this tour again.

Good tour management and friendly helpful counter staff and great tour guide. Very nice scenery, very good explanations from the guide. First time ocean kayaking, please be careful that it is totally different from lake or river water, the wave can be quite high at some point. My husband got bad seasick ( in the wave up and down up and down and very up very down none stopped ) which we never expected it would’ve happened as he does so many many kayaks… The tour guide was very helpful and tied our boat with his then we can make it back to the shore quicker. Thank you very much!!

I have mixed feelings about this tour. On the one hand, it was fun, fulfilling, and aptly run by our guides Keagan and Alex. On the other hand, I thought they played it too safe (definitely get not going into caves because waves high and we were all newbies), but many other inexperienced groups got a lot closer to the caves than we did (not sure why). Tour is well run overall, but too many emails (especially marketing ones) and the 30 minute check-in rule beforehand is not enforced. As for hints, get there earlier to find unrestricted parking as suggested and consider a wet suit. Tour would benefit from a video that shows what to expect when entering and existing the water.
