The cliffs of Cabo Girao are some of the highest in Europe, with a near vertical drop of over 500 meters down to the raging seas of the Atlantic Ocean at the base of the cliffs. These magnificent cliffs have been converted into a nauseating tourist attraction, with a glass floor skywalk extending out over the top of the cliff.

Boca Da Corrida Viewpoint

Boca da Corrida Viewpoint in Jardim da Serra in the high part of Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, is located approximately 1000m above sea level. In this viewpoint we have a stunning view over the valley of Curral das Freiras, Eira do Serrado, the central massif and is the starting point for the walking route of Caminho Real da Encumeada.

Estreito de Camara de Lobos

Estreito de Câmara do Lobos is important for its cultivation of grapes, for the production of Madeira wine. The north of the parish is primarily elevated mountains, where traditional levadas (earthen constructions) still function; these courses were used to transport water by gravity to the population centres and agricultural tracts along its course.

Camara De Lobos

Câmara de Lobos is an attractive village by the sea whose main activity is fishing. Upon arriving at the village you will find many small colourful boats in the bay just waiting for fishermen to take them out to sea. The village recalls with tremendous pride the days when the inspiration for Winston Churchill´s paintings were the stunning landscapes of Câmara de Lobos. Some of his paintings may be viewed today in his former home in Kent (England).

Sorry to say do not join this tour if you are amongst the four people seated in the luggage store in the back. To small for humans, low windows = you see nothing. To far away from the driver, you hear nothing from his guidance. Total discomfort. If you are amongst the lucky four placed in normal seats in the front you probably "survive". Beware!

We went on the tour with our guide Jose. Myself and my two daughters (aged 11 and 9). Mr Jose picked us from our hotel on time. He was very patient and with warm personality, smiling a lot. We liked the slow pace and no rush. Mr Jose has a lot of knowledge about plants and local villages. The most thrilling part was when we went off road into the forest roads with levadas. Met the local people. Going above the clouds was the highlight :-)!! Our family love nature and peace and quiet so this was the best experience ! There was no rush at all-which was good. Thank you Mr Jose for you time and for showing us hidden beaufitul places in your beautiful island. Daniel

En trevlig guide som tog med oss på en jeeptur i bergen. Han körde lugnt och tryggt på serpentinvägarna. Vi fick både se fantastiska utsikts platser och en fiskeby. Vi han även med ett besök på en vin provning.
