I’m surprised Serralves doesn’t rate higher on here as it’s a stunning place to spend few hours. Away from a touristy buzz of Ribeira and other landmarks, Serralves is an oasis of green parks and gardens, mixed with a healthy doze of contemporary art and Art Deco. To appreciate modern art and sculptures scattered across the estate, one must be a contemporary art connoisseur, in my opinion. The collection in the museum is interesting and well- curated, includes installations, performances, photographs, painting and sculptures but it might not be to everyone’s taste. The gardens, park, Casa Art Deco and Treetop Walk, on the other hand, give an opportunity to relax in nature, while admiring sculptures in the park, scattered around. The beauty of Serralves is undeniable. Ticket for full access is on the pricier side so make sure you give yourself few hours of the afternoon to enjoy. It’s worth checking the combo tickets with other attractions. There is a cafeteria and a restaurant with terrace overlooking the park, or you can stop for a drink and a snack at Casa de Chá Tea House, or make your own picnic by the lake. Staff are very friendly and welcoming and the entire estate very clean and well- looked after. Cannot recommend it enough!

After seeing some negative reviews we nearly didn't visit but it was one of our favourite things in Portugal - and that's adults and teens. The gardens are the perfect cooling and tranquil antidote to the hot, busy city, with plenty of shade and plenty to explore at every turn. We didn't get given a map or a guide but didn't mind just wandering - which we did for a very enjoyable 4 hours! For our teen studying photography it was perfect as there are sculptures, artworks, pools, intetesting architecture and treetop vistas to capture. I'm glad we took a picnic to enjoy as there wasn't much choice to be had in the park - just the Casa da Cha for a refreshing cuppa! It's not clear what is and isn't included in each ticket and there is no ticket booth at the entrance. As others have said there are random security guards, some of whom seem to let you into things and some of whom don't! We had no issues as we were able to access the stunning house to see the Miro and Calder exhibition. Be prepared for plenty of breathtaking marble! We were also able to access the black box pavilion in the gardens to view an installation by a Japanese artist. Wow!!! Mind blowing and totally unlike any art I'd experienced before. Go see and you'll understand ! So park tickets don't give you access to the museum or the house of cinema but they may (or may not) give you access to the house and the 'black box'! We thoroughly enjoyed meandering in this cool, tranquil and constantly surprising setting. For us it just kept giving. But please Fundacio Serralves sort out your ticketing so it's clear what to expect. You have an amazing setting and an amazing offer - you could keep everyone satisfied with a few tweaks. One last thing - just get an Uber - cheap, easy and plentiful in Porto 😀

Myself, my wife, and my two adult children visited on a Wednesday afternoon. It was relaxing and enjoyable. We enjoyed tbe park and farm best. The art deco house is very beautiful. We also visited the main gallery, we did not fund the art there as beautiful as the deco building. or the donkeys in the farm. We all agreed it was one of our favourite trips in Porto.

We went to see the gardens. 39euro for 2 adults and 2 children (59 inc travel in and out of the city) and what a total waste of money. They are not well kept at all. Just not enjoyable. They have the potential to be amazing, especially with the art deco house as a back drop - but they look old and tired. Clearly no one bothers to do basic gardening tasks. Really really really disappointing. We have left feeling a bit robbed. Save your money!

The museum building deserves much better ‘art’ than that displayed. This was a collection of the worst type of ‘contemporary art’ - stuff that included scribbles and just splodges of colour, come on! This is the type of thing that gives ‘art’ a bad name. I don’t need to try to understand it to know that it really is not very good, no matter what the artist meant. The better work on display really was no better than you could expect to see in a GCSE final submission - just amaturish. The park was actually very nice with some actually good, interest sculptures - I particularly liked the ‘sky mirror’. The tree top walk was also good. It’s just a shame that we did the museum - it put us all in a bad mood at paying money to see such poor art. If you do go, just do the park. Oh, the cafe in the park was also pretty poor.

Watch out! I visited to see the Miro exhibition, and bought a ticket for the museum. But it turned out that the modern art exhibition was not in the modern art museum, but in a different part of the grounds, for which they should have sold me the park ticket not the museum one. Very disappointing, and disappointing how the staff refused to upgrade the ticket to a museum/park one. That said, the exhibition I was able to see (Carla Filipe) was excellent. But without that, the museum was limited.

We went to Serrvales hoping to explore the park and treetop tour with my kids. Unfortunately when we got there the treetop tour was closed due to maintenance. There was nothing on their website to indicate that it was closed and my kids were disappointed they didn’t get to do this portion of the park. The park itself is nice to walk around and it is huge. We didn’t walk the whole thing. Taking a stroller was a little bit of a challenge at points with the rocky walkways. For the price it was a bit expensive just to walk in the park.

Unacceptable behaviour of security personnel. Would not let my 3 year old to the toilet because did not have the ticket with him. Not family friendly!!

Possibly one of the most beautiful and well designed galleries I have visited. A spacious, interesting and well curated institution. Of course, what you can see there will depend on when you go, but on our visit there was some excellent exhibits to see. The grounds and gardens are also part of the attraction, which are fabulous to explore and find many sculpture works as well as an art-deco mansion. Well worth taking the short trip from the city centre, especially if you are interested in contemporary art.

We were attracted to this in order to visit the Art Deco Villa. It is entirely closed for renovation. If that’s your interest, check sone months from now whether it’s Bern re-opened. Having taken an Uber and paid for two tickets, we strolled the grounds - and they are lovely and a nice respite from the Historic Center. Not worth the price of a ticket unless you want to visit the contemporary art museum and the cinema museum. And also note: they give a 50% discount to 65+.
