Longer story: I knew I wanted to see some of the Cotswolds on my most recent trip to London with our group of 4, but knew that I did not want to do a large bus tour. I was trying to decide between renting our own car and booking a private tour, and I'm SO glad we booked with Matthias (Matt). After searching online for hours through so many tours, I finally reached out to Matt and he helped put together the most quaint itinerary of three picturesque Cotswold villages. But he can customize the itinerary according to whatever you want to see in the area. After excellent pre-meet up communication, Matt picked us up from the Bath train station in his incredibly clean and comfortable Mercedes van (thoughtfully stocked with waters for all of us!), and he felt like an instant friend! Matt drove us through beautiful scenery as we went from village to village, teaching us the history of each little place (and wove it into British history as a whole) as we went along. At each stop we got out and walked around with plenty of time to explore in each location. Matt expertly guided us as we stopped in at local shops (Matt is so friendly, and must know nearly everyone, and we got to have conversations with so many of the owners which was a huge highlight making the experience so personal), churches, old manors, and wandered the villages as Matt pointed out and taught us about all of the details we would never have noticed had we gone alone. Matt arranged lunch at a delicious pub as well for us. He was attentive to every detail, customizing the day as we went along. If we wanted a coffee, snack, or bathroom break we were able to stop at any time. This is on of the many benefits of having a private tour. We had such an authentic experience with Matt... it was exactly what we were looking for and something you just cannot get on the larger (or even small group) tours. It felt like we were visiting an old friend who was showing us around for the day. The experience was 100% worth every penny and next time we're back in the area we will book with Matt again!

What a wonderful experience! Such a beautiful part of the country and Matt did a fantastic job of painting a full picture of the area and its rich history. He had lots of very interesting info to share that really deepened our understanding and appreciation for the area. We learned so much in a highly entertaining way!
