Your Itinerary

Culloden Battlefield

Travel from our pick-up point through the heart of Inverness. Hear about the early beginnings of the town of Inverness to the city it is today. Heading east you will take a moving trip to the last pitched battleground on mainland Britain, Culloden Battlefield. This would be a walking tour of the battlefield site, sharing with you her family links to the Culloden in 1746. You will find out why there was such a devastating loss of life during the battle, causing an end to the Jacobite era. There is also a visitor center, cafe, and shop for you to explore. Culloden was featured in the Outlander books and TV series. If you are a fan Cath can point out the links between the two.

Clava Cairns

A short journey down into the valley behind Culloden Battlefield you will visit the 4,0000-year-old chambered burial ground of Clava Cairns or Balnuaran as it is also known. There are many theories as to why the stones were positioned here. Cath will share with you some of the folklore and legends of the place. The cairns were the original stones that became Craigh Na Dun in Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series of books and TV shows.

Cawdor Castle

Visit Cawdor Castle a Highland Castle and Gardens. Enter the Castle via its gate, moat & drawbridge. Cawdor Castle is known for its turrets, turnpike stairs, and vaulted 16th-century kitchen. The Castle has twelve rooms to discover, full of art, tapestries, and sculptures. There are also magnificent gardens, a maze, and woods to explore.

My tours (1 and 1/2 days) with Cath (Walk Inverness) surpassed all expectations and were by far the best tours (of 6) that I experienced during my three week visit to Scotland. I feel so fortunate that she was able to accommodate my schedule on short notice due to problems with a previously booked guide. Cath immediately responded to my request for a solo bespoke driving tour of areas in and around Inverness that were meaningful to me because of family history. She quickly created an itinerary that included those places as well as others that are historically significant. Cath is an Inverness native and has a wealth of knowledge, history and insight of the area. In addition to her expertise, which she communicated very effectively, she was warm, friendly, patient, and attentive. She even made a couple of “detours” so I could sort out a postal issue. I feel as though I have made a new friend. Cath has gone above and beyond by providing me with book recommendations and links to sites that will help me as I continue to research my family. If you are visiting the Inverness area and need a guide, I recommend Cath of Walk Inverness without hesitation. In addition to walking tours, Cath can also provide driving tours as she did for me.

We took the morning walking tour of Inverness as well as an afternoon driving tour to Culloden Battlefield, Fort George and Clara Cairns. Cath of Cath’s Inverness Tours was great. She’s a hometown girl who knows both the history and current quirks of beautiful Inverness and surrounding areas, making it obvious that she loves her town and loves showing it off. And unlike other tours I’ve taken, I never felt nervous about her driving!!! If Cath’s tour can appeal to both me and my 21 year old son, I think everyone would love her tours.

Oh my, what a wonderful tour with Cath. She is thoughtful, extremely knowledgeable and has all sorts of stories as she and her family have lived in Inverness for decades. Oh yes, and very witty. We laughed and awed at stories and sites. She is truly a gem of a guide and representative of the warm Invernesisans. She truly knows and loves her home. She is definitely the guide to pick. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience. Definitely recommending you to friends and family.

Cath/Walk Inverness is amazing. She picked us up 10 minutes before the agreed time, just to make sure things went smoothly. She was informed and informative. She had water and snacks and was never out of step with us as travelers. She was able to keep us on the agenda but flexible enough to modify our agenda on the fly, based on what caught our interest at the moment... whale spotting or an unexpected tour of a well known and highly regarded pottery business... She kept pace with us as fast walkers and faster talkers, she was never at a loss for helping us identify a building or a statue or a bird or plant. The woman knows everything and never once makes you feel like you're learning something new. She showers you with information in the most perfect way possible. There are lots of options for tours in the highlands and I don't know if she is the very best, or just the best for us, but I know that when we come back, I will plan our visit to Inverness area based on her availability. A visit to the Highlands wouldn't be the same without time with Cath/Walk Inverness
