What to expect
McSorley's Old Ale House
At the end of your two-hour walk, have a seat right at the bar where Declan Howell stood - on the bar - and made a speech about Shakespeare in season 2. McSorley's is one of the oldest bars in NYC. Its walls are lined with nearly 200 years of history! You'll see a campaign poster for Theodore Roosevelt, a pair of handcuffs that Houdini wiggled out of, a bust of John F. Kennedy, and far more. McSorley's Old Ale House serves ale and no other alcoholic drinks.
Washington Square Park
Midge made an impassioned plea to women under Washington Square Arch, in order to help author and Greenwich Village community leader Jane Jacobs save the park from becoming a highway. This was a real cause in the late 1950s! The arch dates from 1889. It commemorates the inauguration - on Wall Street - of George Washington as first president of the USA! The arch is iconic; that's why it's seen in Barefoot In The Park August Rush I Am Legend and my wife's favorite movie, When Harry Met Sally.
