It is a home to the remains of the 14th-century catholic Carmo Convent which serves as one of the last reminders of the 1755 Lisbon earthquake, due to not being completely rebuild to our days. Today it is the place for the Carmo Archaeological Museum.

Torre de Belem

Torre de Belém is considered one of the main symbols of Europe's Age of Discovery. Almost 500 centuries ago it was a starting place for most of the Portuguese naval expeditions, including famous voyages by Vasco da Gama and Pedro Álvares Cabral, that led to numerous discoveries which had huge cultural impact on the late medieval society. It was built during the peak of the Portuguese Renaissance and serves as the finest example of the Portuguese late Gothic style of architecture.
