Altstadt Hattingen
There is a lot to experience on this guided tour of the old town of Hattingen: the legendary "Horkenstein" tells of the early settlement of the region around Hattingen. The Synagogue Square is located in front of the historic city wall. The synagogue of the Jewish religious community stood here until 1938. The smallest half-timbered house in Hattingen's old town stands on a stump of the medieval city fortifications. A dense half-timbered building was once attached to the reformed St. John's Church, which was destroyed in 1945. The arcade-lined square tells us a lot about medieval shopkeepers and what the city's wine house has to do with my early contracts. On the Obermarkt, one of the liveliest squares in the area of the historic old town, the Treidelbrunnen commemorates the first economic boom due to the navigability of the Ruhr. The Old Town Hall was built in 1576 above the butchers' guild hall and tells us about the city's early economic boom.
St. Georgs-Kirche.
Can you pay your rent with wax? Why does a crowned lady watch over the city's former burial ground? And why is the tower helmet of the St. Gorgs church so crooked? There is a lot to see and to report about one of the oldest buildings in the old town.
Altstadt Hattingen
In 1396 the Hattingen received permission to fortify their city. Even today, parts of the preserved city wall, the locations of the formerly five city gates marked with modern works of art and the two preserved defense towers announce the need for protection and warlike events.
Bugeleisenhaus
In 1611, a half-timbered house was built in the fork of two alleys, which due to its pointed shape is reminiscent of a flat iron and has long been referred to as an "iron house". In front of the building you will learn interesting facts about envy masks, dewbands and sun wheels. A guided tour of the interior is possible on request (plus 15 minutes)
