Miradouro de Santa Iria
This viewpoint located in front of the Bay of Santa Iria, on the north coast of the island, has a view over the same coast and over the town of Porto Formoso in the vicinity of Ribeira Grande. The landscape from here is lush and green until it meets the sea.
Plantacoes de Cha Gorreana
Everyone probably knows that there is a long history surrounding tea, going back to China . In Europe, the known history of tea goes back to the 17th century. Working since 1883, it is the oldest tea plantation in Europe. The used plant – Camellia sinensis – for the green and black tea, was introduced in the island in 1750, brought by the ships returning from the East.
Caldeira das Furnas
Caldeiras das Furnas is certainly on of the most visited places in the entire Azorean archipelago, contributing, in a lot, to this attraction, the various phenomena of active volcanism found in this locality.
Other attractions in this area are the sulfuric mud and the huge amount of water sources there. Some hot, others temperate or even cold or gasified, sprout from inside the rocks, side by side, to the delight of tourists. It is the power of Mother Nature to manifest itself with all its vigor.

We were a bit disappointed because we had booked a jeep but there were none available and had to switch to a van.
However, our guide was just really really nice and funny, told us a lot about the island, was very flexible on timings, ….
And it’s an absolutely beautiful tour!!!
We recommend 👍🏻

Our guide was Filipe and he was awesome, very knowledgeable, patient and a great driver. He customized our trip so we would make the most. We started in the South, at the Ceramics factory and museau and then visited Caloura a nice fishing village and
then Villa Franca Do Campo and its cute Church and took many amazing photos. Then it was on to the Furnas and the Botanic Gardens. This is a must do, as it is the Cozido lunch which we had arrange for with Felipe and we had seen cooking on the volcano fumaroles. We ended the day at the tea plantation and were back in town right at 5 pm for our pick up to Quinta da Terca. Fully recommended. The private tour makes it more relaxed and offers customization.

Our tour guide Rodrigo made this trip and also the Jeep day touring the West and Sete Cidades tour. We got to see more of the island without the stress of driving roads and finding our way safely- plus got to enjoy the beauty! In all our years of travel, Rodrigo was at the top echelon of local guides. Thank you!
Azorenfa
