As a history nerd, my dad and I recently returned from a Virginia Presidential vacation, and our first stop was Mount Vernon. From the impressive gardens, to the outbuildings, to the visitor center, the entire estate is geared to tell you all about the Father of Our Country from his political and military career to his private life. The house is beautifully preserved and every room allows for a look at a facet of Washington’s life, including his deathbed. The grounds also contain George and Martha Washington’s tombs and their original tomb which has been restored. The tour was very in-depth and always interesting, it gives you a great appreciation for Washington and what the earliest Patriots had to go through to build this great nation, along with now it still effects us today. I would highly recommend everyone visit at least once-you’ll be glad you did!

Mt. Vernon is not only home to America's most famous founding father and first president, it is a most impressive set of grounds and vibrant learning center. What really makes the tours here special is all the really interesting things you will learn that you didn't get in school, like how this great general and politician was also an agricultural innovator. We spent half a day here, but could have gone longer.

We loved the informative tour and the lovely furnishings, so many of which are original. We would have appreciated more time in each area and felt quite rushed to the point of not being able to ask a question without missing the start of the narrative in the next section. Additionally, we were disappointed that no senior discount was available.

For the price, it is completely not worth it. The tour guide was not knowledgeable or enthusiastic about history - which was a huge disappointment to our kids who have been reading about early US history. We just came from Colonial Williamsburg where my kids would engage the folks there in 10-30 minute conversations about history or the time period. So, to have a tour guide not really interested in the content was a bummer. She avoided questions and if someone asked, she didn’t know the answer anyway - basic questions (how did Washington get his wealth? Generational wealth; inheritance; he’s one of the most wealthy presidents in the US. Why is the dining room green? Folks thought it helped with digestion- you see it in Hamilton’s home in NYC and upper class in Williamsburg). The grounds were nice. The museum would have been nice, but it was unclear what time it closed. The website and map said it closed 30 minutes after the grounds closed, but they told us we had to leave 15 minutes early. Sure, people want to finish work on time, but update your materials. I appreciate how they are trying to bring in a more balanced history of slavery at the plantation, but more work is needed.

My daughter and I took the boat from DC to the estate thinking it would be a wonderful experience. Save your money- the boat ride was 2 hours, "guided narration" was pre recorded and minimal at best, sanitation on the boat was Severely lacking (I contacted the company afterwards). It's a short drive from Alexandria or less than $20 by Uber/Lyft. The reason I mention the boat experience is that on the Mount Vernon main page they prominently display a link to the boat site. The actual visit to the estate was wonderful. The house was beautiful and filled with many artifacts. The grounds are much larger than you expect and there are many pathways to explore while there. Don't miss the Slave memorial site- it's beautifully done. The tomb of George and Martha is also separate from the main estate. There is a gorgeous visitor center/museum as well with several gift shops and food options that were not unreasonably priced. We saw everything we wanted in about 2 hours but still had to wait an additional our for the return boat ride. Absolutely visit- but take yourself.

The tour is short but well-narrated with information. The mansion tour itself is not expensive but comes as an add-on to the group pass. The views were tremendous, needs at least a day to cover the entire property at leisure.

This was my second time to Mt. Vernon this year, and I loved it just as much this time. Previously, I was here in February, so it was fun to see how the landscape has changed with the changing seasons. Make sure to book a tour to the mansion and pick up an audio guide in the visitors center entrance (these are free) This time we booked a “Behind The Scenes National Treasure 2” tour. We are big fans of that movie, so this really appealed to us. The tour lasted a little under one hour and was informative and fun. We were able to go many places on the property you can’t access with the grounds pass only. Highly recommend. Also, don’t miss the museum on your way out. Lots to see and read here.

We definitely did not have allot enough time to explore Washington's Estate but enjoyed every minute that we did. The House was very well restored and contained a lot of original pieces. The tour guides were very knowledgeable and gave us an inside look to the life of Washington and during that period in time. The gravesites were really impressive. The Estate is very expansive and the museum is quite large. Allow several hours to see it all.

Our school group went through here (on a rainy day), but was still very enjoyable, the history in and around the grounds is amazing to listen to. The view out the back porch is my favorite. To see how they lived way back then and to see how things have been preserved for so many years is incredible.
