The catacombs of St. Callixtus are among the greatest and most important catacombs of Rome. PLEASE NOTE: We might visit other catacombs in case last-minute closures appear.

Circus Maximus

Circus Maximus was the largest chariot stadium in ancient Rome. The 600 meter long stadium was located between the Palatine and Aventine hill and could accommodate as many as 150,000 spectators. The first construction of Circus Maximus dates back to the 6th century BC, after which several emperors had the stadium expanded or rebuilt after major fires. Little is left of the old stadium; you will find a large field in which the shape is still recognizable and a few small ruins.

One of the most beautiful squares in Rome, it owes its name to the famous "Bocca della Verità", a manhole cover in the shape of a mask, housed in the portico of the adjoining church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin.
