What to expect
Lido Beach
Lido´s new town is one of the most touristy areas of Funchal city, where there is available a restaurant for everyone´s taste and needs, a pleasant and airy promenade to walk by day or by night, and so much more to discover. This area is also known for having the best beach complexes in Funchal, so if maybe a swim can be an option when visiting this location. For instance, Doca do Cavacas Swimming Complex is one of the most famous beaches in this neighborhood and can be visited whilst doing this tuk-tuk tour.
Doca do Cavacas Natural Pools
The Doca do Cavacas complex is situated just a few meters away from Formosa´s beach, one of the most attended beaches on the entire island. This small and delightful area is great not only for sunbathing and taking a dip in the fresh volcanic pools, but also to take some remarkable shots of this spot.
Camara De Lobos
After a quick pit stop at “Doca do Cavacas” the trip will continue its course towards the famous fishing village, in Câmara de Lobos town. This town gave home to Madeira´s discoverer, João Gonçalves Zarco, from 1420 until 1424. A fishing village that can be found just 5km outside east of Funchal and offers several places that make the best “Poncha”, a famous Madeiran beverage. A city is greatly known for its fishing port, where fishermen normally fish at night. The scabbard is the most caught and enjoyed fish here. This fish has evolved into a peculiar appearance with big eyes, long snouts, and fang teeth, due to the fact that his habitat is 1,500 m below the surface. An amazing historical fact about this town is that back in the year 1950, Winston Churchill arrived with his wife, and eldest daughter, and stayed here for a while. Having felt inspired by this lovely fishing town, Churchill painted the town, and can now be found in the city for anyone to enjoy.
