Your Itinerary

Whitechapel

You will be met at Aldgate East Station and proceed on foot for a walking tour around the heart of Whitechapel. Your expert guide will share the history of the "East End" of London, and how this once very deprived area is now going through huge regeneration. The tour of this area will cover key locations relating to the Jack The Ripper Murders, and will take you through a detailed account of the case and those involved.

Spitalfields

Now a very trendy and creative area, Spitalfields in 1888 was a very different place. Even the Police feared going in after dark, and during the Autumn of 1888 Jack the Ripper chose this area as one of his main stalking grounds. You will visit surviving buildings, murder sites and hear the witness testimonies from time. Perhaps these details will help you form your own opinion on the worlds most famous unsolved crime?

Fournier Street

Once home of the Huguenot Silkweavers that fled persecution in France, this area became full of Doss Houses by 1888. One of the most famous Pubs in the area is The Ten Bells. All of Jack the Rippers victims were known to frequent the Pub. The interior is largely the same as it was back then. The youngest of Jack the Rippers victims Mary Kelly is particularly linked with the pub, as her lodgings were just across the street.

I'm really glad I booked with Richard's Tours and certainly wasn't dissapointed! I had other things on in the morning so with short notice, Richard responded to agree a meet in the afternoon and he was bang on time. He was presentable, amiable and down to earth. It was immediately obvious that he was very keen to share his well researched knowledge, which was reassuring given that having paid for a private tour, I was getting a lot more than an off the shelf group tour (from what others have described to me). Born a Londoner and more than familiar with the area, he regularly checked that the tour pace was comfortable to ensure I was happy with the 3 hour route. He was very helpful with fotos and encouraged questions and discussions on this still mysterious subject, which is pretty clear that he's personally interested in, so much so that in the short time, not only did I acquire a lot of knowledge, but he's actually perked my own interest in Jack The Ripper! Although some parts of the area are still dodgy, I felt completely at ease being with Richard, who increasingly came across as more of a friendly local rather than a tour guide, and despite the atrocious weather, the 3 hours passed well beyond my expectations given his abilities - so excellent value for money. In conclusion, I should add that I'm also from London, but Richard's Tours aren't just for tourists, so if you're short on time and want a knowledgeable host, then Richard Chambers is your man. I, for one, will be checking out his other tours!

My friend and I booked this two hour tour on the recommendation of a friend. It was a very cold evening but we soon forgot about that as our guide John was so interesting and informative. He really brought the story of Jack the ripper to life although it is quite a gruesome tale .Well worth doing as it is a big part of the East end's history.

This tour was the first my sisters and I took when we arrived in London. I had checked into many Ripper tours and we decided to go with Richard’s Tours in the daytime Reviews of other tours turned us off into going at night for a few reasons. First, many people who went at night had to compete with many other tours with large groups of people and many said it was very hard to hear their tour guide. Two, the area is "sketchy” at night so we weren’t going to hang around there after the tour and would have to find transportation back to our hotel. Richard was absolutely great. He met us at our hotel at 1pm and took us on the tube to White Chapel. He has a great personality and is so informative! Took us all round to the pertinent sites and even took us to the historic Ten Bells Pub where one of the victims was last seen. We had a pint! Richard is easy going and lets you dictate the pace of your tour. The tour lasted approx 3 hours. He gave us directions on how to get back on the tube and get back to our hotel. A private tour like this is the way to go for a small group and was well worth it.
