Trastevere
Our 3-hour walking tour starts in Trastevere and then takes you over the Tiber river to the Jewish Ghetto. Trastevere is a picturesque neighbourhood whose origins dates back to medieval times. It is a charming area filled with narrow winding streets, tight alleyways and lovely pedestrian squares. Our intimate walking tours help you delve beneath the touristy veneer to better understand this fascinating area. Trastevere was once home to wealthy Etruscans and your guide will help you understand what it was once like. You will also visit some of Rome’s most important churches, including Santa Cecilia, the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, and San Francesco a Ripa. Walking around this neighbourhood is the best way to see all of its monuments and landmarks, as well as to get a feel for this unforgettable area of Rome.
Jewish Ghetto
Your walking tour continues in the Jewish Ghetto, where you will learn about Jewish history and presence in Rome, which is still very noticeable today. Discover Rome's Jewish Ghetto, or Roman Ghetto, established in 1555 by Pope Paul IV for the 5,000 Jews that lived in Rome at the time. The former walled quarter sits close to the river Tiber, and is one of the most fascinating quarters of the modern city. Led by an experienced guide, pass by Jewish-owned businesses, and visit kosher restaurants. When possible, they'll also try to point out to the Synagogue of Rome. You'll also see the Porticus Octaviae, one of the most recognised landmarks in the ghetto which sits in the middle of Piazza Mattei. Your guide will also point out Ponte Rotto, which is the oldest stone bridge in all of Rome.
