Chiesa Rupestre Sant'Antonio Abate

Matera: church of S. Antonio Abate at Sasso Barisano Located in the Sasso Barisano near via Madonna delle Virtù, already close to the natural canal called «grabiglione barisano», hidden in the Fascist era, Sant'Antonio Abate is a church carved into the rock with a forepart and a masonry facade.

Casa Grotta Sassi di Matera - C'era Una Volta

Typical House of the Sassi of Matera

Chiesa Rupestre di San Giuliano o Madonna Delle Grazie

The church of the Madonna delle Grazie is located in via del Sasso Caveoso in Matera, in an abandoned area subject to collapse. The church, still open to the public, was formerly dedicated to Sant'Eustachio, as evidenced by the pastoral visit of Msgr. Saracen in 1543-1544. The entrance consists of a bell gable. It includes a terracotta bas-relief representing the Madonna and Child.

The Rupestrian Church Of San Giorgio

Rock site which, in its 40 meters of depth, covers 1000 years of Matera history. The ancient church of San Giorgio al Paradiso first gave way to an oil mill, in the 18th century, to a cellar for pressing the grapes and storing the barrels. The water recovery system is visible with its intact canals and cisterns plastered with cocciopesto.

Casa Cava

Casa Cava is a multipurpose cultural center entirely excavated in the rock located in the Sassi of Matera. it is a space of 900 square meters made up of ten rooms including an auditorium that can accommodate 140 people. Casa Cava is a fascinating rock complex located in the Sasso Barisano next to the rock church of San Pietro Barisano.

Materasum Ipogeo

the Matera sum hypogeum, in the historic center of the city, is the place where space and time stop to tell you the story. traditions and culture mix in one of the oldest cities in the world. pure emotion from the belly of the earth.

First - the address on the Viator confirmation to pickup the card was wrong, but fortunately some local folks figured out where I had to go...5 minutes drive away through the extremely windy streets of Matera! Second - few of the "must see" Matera places are included. e.g. not the Archeology Museum, Casa Noha, the 3 main rupstrian churches in the Sassi area, none of churches/cathedrals, the cistern. You can make it pay I guess, but you'll then be paying extra to see these other places.

We saw the two churches in a hurry and then our host disappeared. Nobody was there to open the door at the museum, even upon appointment. Rather visit Sassi at your iwn pace and get tickets as you arrive at the location. Not worth to buy the pass.

Tour molto bello e interessante.
