Tonnara di Scopello

The sea is certainly the main attraction of Scopello. And even more, its wonderful tonnara that we meet at the foot of the village, in a cove of extraordinary beauty. The Tonnara di Scopello is one of the oldest in all of Sicily. Today the Tonnara di Scopello is a true natural museum, evidence of an economy that was once based on tuna fishing. All the tools used for fishing are kept inside the museum and thanks to a guided tour it is possible to reconstruct its entire history. In the crystalline waters of the Tonnara, the famous stacks covered by a rich vegetation stand out majestically. The visit to the monumental complex of the Tonnara di Scopello is for a fee and allows the visit of the Tonnara, the Museum and the beach with its stacks where you can take an unforgettable swim. The current cost of the ticket is 7 euros for adults and 5 euros for children.

Scopello Borgo Storico

Borgo di Scopello is a medieval village in western Sicily that extends around a small seventeenth-century beam. The center is guarded by a quadrilateral structure, a typical building of Arab origin, very common among the farms and the Trapani countryside. There are very few houses that overlook it, caressed by the presence of Piazza Nettuno, the beating heart and theater of shows. The context is enriched by a fountain, an ancient drinking trough for animals, embellished by a recent restoration work. Another characterizing element is the flooring. A huge arch marks the entrance to the Baglio Isonzo and opens the doors to the presence of a centuries-old oak, a witness to past civilizations. Here you can have lunch. Enjoy delicacies and typical products. Impossible not to taste the "pane cunzato", true street food or the "cassatella", a sweet ricotta sheet.

Bar La Sorgente, Specialità Cassatelle di Ricotta & Dolci Siciliani.

We stop in Castellammare del Golfo, to taste the cassatelle. Cassatella is a dessert from western Sicily, typical of the Scopello and Castellammare del Golfo tradition. The dessert originated in 1,700 in Calatafimi, a small community located just behind Castellammare del Golfo. One of the traditional Italian food products has recently been named. Cassatella is one of the peculiarities of Trapani, a must for tourists and the La Sorgente bar, where we offer a taste of these delights.
