Blair Castle & Gardens

We will travel north towards the Perthshire highlands where we will visit the stunning Blair Castle. The castle is the ancient seat of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl and home to Europe's last remaining private army, the Atholl Highlanders. We will take a tour of the castle and visit the 30 rooms on display that are full of Scottish cultural history, architectural design, period furnishings, family portraits, landscape paintings and a colourful military past. Highlights include the Victorian Ballroom, which is decorated with 175 pairs of antlers, the Entrance Hall that features weapons used at the Battle of Culloden, the classic Georgian styling of the Picture Staircase and the grandeur of the Drawing Room and State Dining Room. We will then have lunch at the Tullibardine Restaurant that provides a wide range of hot or cold meals and snacks for visitors touring the castle or gardens. Queen's View

After lunch we will stop at the beautiful Queens View which was one of the favourite locations for Queen Victoria to visit when she travelled through the Scottish highlands. Queen Victoria is said to have remarked that the spectacular view was named after her, when she visited the area in 1866. However, it has also been suggested that the view was in fact named after King Robert the Bruce’s wife, Queen Isabella of Scotland, over 550 years earlier. Enjoy the stunning views over Loch Tummel and the famous Schiehallion Mountain that is sometimes described to be the centre of Scotland.

The Hermitage Woodland Walk

To cap of your tour, we will visit the Hermitage, originally designed as a pleasure ground in the 18th century for the Dukes of Atholl. Walk through the towering Douglas firs to the folly of Ossian’s Hall, and gaze over the Black Linn Falls that crash down from the River Braan. We will then drive you to your accommodation to finish of the epic adventure of Scotland.

James put together an incredibly memorable day in the Highlands. He combined history, beauty and fun. We saw important monuments; had a private distillery tour/tasting; hiked to a waterfall; toured a castle; saw a bagpiper; and ended the day with toast at Queen’s View. James and Alba Experiences are PHENOMENAL!

James took my family and I to the Tullibardine Distillery, the Heritage, Blair Castle, and the Queens View. He was extremely knowledgeable and made sure to take the time to make the trip extra special for our kids. He was so kind to our little one and told her fairy stories. He even did a demonstration on how to fold a kilt! He also had a model of a sword for us to feel. We had a fabulous time and would definitely recommend Alba Tours!

LoriCraft

Hands down, the best Scotland (Alba) experience! James was our private guide and is the owner of Alba Experiences. He is extremely knowledgeable and you can tell his love of his country through his stories and history he shared through out the trip. Attention to detail was top notch! This tour was the perfect way to end our trip to Scotland: and a dram of whiskey was the only way to say farewell, but we will be back. My only regret was not booking them for all of our tours in this beautiful country.

Best experience in Scotland! James is a very knowledgeable guide and will take you to all there is to see in Scotland. Hope to be back soon!

James took us on an awesome 9 day tour. We saw several waterfalls, (Plodda Falls, The Hermitage, and others) that were raging flows with all the current rains. We were blessed with wonderful weather for our days and even had a weather adventure when we were leaving Orkney. James handled the circumstances very well and was able to find another ferry that returned us to the mainland. It was our third tour with James and he continues to excel with his knowledge and guidance. If that was not enough, he is a talented photographer who shared his knowledge with me as I tried to capture nice photographs to take home. James is very accommodating. We continue to chose to tour Scotland with James and have recommended him to our close friends. We spent several days in Orkney and enjoyed seeing Skara Brae, Ring of Brodgar, Maeshowe Chambered Cairn, cathedrals, chapels, palaces, and traversed the Churchill Barriers. The Highland Park Distillery tour is wonderful. Our tour guide at Highland Park was named James also. He did a wonderful job too. While in the Highlands we enjoyed Falkland, Glencoe, and Inverness. We had a wonderful walking tour of Edinburgh.

We spent an amazing 4 days with James and our friends and savoured every moment. From the majesty of the Fairy Pools, Fairy Glen, and Cuith Raing on Skye; to the history of Eilean Donan, Glenfinnan, Inveraray Castle; to the mystical prehistoric standing stones, carved rock circles and Viking graves; to the peat and sweet tastes (and ferries and swims!) of Islay; all the way to a warm welcome to “Rest and be Thankful,” Luss and Loch Lomond - everything covered in spring daffodils. James’ songs and readings and stories about his family heritage and tartan made everything more fun and meaningful. He took care of all the details and logistics so we could marvel in the moments. We fell in love with even more of Scotland and will be back time and again.
