This is an utterly stupendous museum! It is fairly new-I believe built just before the pandemic. It overlooks the magnificent amphitheater and has a convenient casual cafe. Inside the museum is about 3 levels and has some of the most amazing mosaics anywhere in the world. The museum has a nice chronological flow and non Francophones can easily understand the exhibits. There are a few good short films and some very innovative interpretive displays of frescoes, etc. I've been to a huge number of museums around the world and in France including the Louvre, Cluny (Musee du Moyen Age), L'Orangerie, d'Orsay, Musee Granet, Palais du Papes, Musee Alsaciennes, Palais Rohan etc. This is a TOP EXPERIENCE for anyone interested in the Greco-Roman Era and/or Medieval Age.

We always make a point of visiting the Civic and/or archaeological Museum which should provide the history of the city with lots of artifacts. We've been to some really great ones, particularly in Bordeaux, Rennes, and Nantes. But we're giving the prize to Nimes, perhaps because they had lots of info in English, and a super restaurant atop the museum. And really attentive and proud folks at the desk. Allow 3 hours if you want to "do it right". You can come and go to the restaurant.

Fascinating collection of Roman life and accomplishments. Really enjoyed this visit. This is a well run operation and very easy to navigate for English speaking visitors. Presentations are quite realistic and there are some site recreations that you can walk through and really get a feel for what was going on. Staff is very helpful and enjoy showing you what they have. Highly recommend.

The museum was fantastic! We spent about 3 hours there, but could easily have spent another 2 or 3 hours. We did order the “Skip the Lines” ticket ahead of time, but for some reason, our codes wouldn’t scan. However, the staff was very helpful and manually let us through. Definitely pay for the audio/video headsets. Then you can roam the museum at your leisure. It’s a very well thought out museum. There’s lots of interactive exhibits. It’s great because you can spend a little bit of time or you can really delve into a topic. The videos are in French, English, and Spanish. This is a definite Must Do when in Montpelier.

The ticket was not read by the electronic reader so we had to stand in line anyway to get a ticket. It was a bit ridiculous. No "skipping the line" for us!

This is an excellent, very well organized museum with many volunteers sprinkled around the museum ready to answer questions. There is an impressive Etruscan exhibit on the basement floor and then arrows that guide you into the Roman Empire followed by its decline and the Middle Ages in Nimes. Amazing artifacts, great history lessons (all signs are in French, English, and Spanish plus there are recorded guided tours). So many of the museum pieces came from Nimes and its surrounding. It is amazing the depth of history in this city and this museum provides serious insight into it.

This museum is very well laid out and easy to navigate. The exhibits are fascinating and well displayed. There are lots of interactive bits and fantastic use of projections to bring things to life. A great place to spend a couple of hours or more. The building itself is a lovely piece of modern architecture, both inside and out. Take the lift up to the roof when you are finished. There are great views of Nimes and the Arena just opposite.

We were impressed by the visit to this museum with its original and very functional architecture. The rooms are very well arranged. The works are very well highlighted and commented on. Very high quality multimedia animations. A truly exceptional museum!

I looked with great amazement at the extensive collection of Roman artefacts, including the beautiful mosaics found in this region.

Beautiful museum. There are many Roman excavations in Nimes. There is a lot to see in this museum. I had purchased tickets in advance. The museum is located right next to the Arena in a beautiful, modern building. Afterwards we also went up to the roof. Nice view of the arena.
