There are many companies that offer rafting trips on the American River, and after looking at ~10, I picked H20 Adventures because 1) they were a local company, 2) I didn't want food included, and 3) price. It was straightforward to book through their website, and when I had to make some changes later on, I emailed and talked on the phone with Fianna, who was responsive and helpful in answering my questions and making the changes. Our group of 7 adults did the half day South Fork of the American River, Lower Gorge Run. Once we were all gathered at the river campground, we were given our equipment (all in good condition) and a thorough safety talk. Most of us had no experience with white water rafting, and our guide Marina was a great instructor and paddle captain. At the beginning, she asked us if we wanted our trip to be "mild or spicy," and when the group decided on "spicy," she delivered a high adrenaline trip on the river, including spinning the raft, purposely hitting rocks, and tackling rapids head on, but each time she gave clear instructions before and during, so we were able to paddle together confidently. Everyone had a blast, and I doubt we would've had the option of a "spicy" adventure if we had gone with one of the bigger companies (e.g. OARS), which seemed to have a more rigid schedule and style for their large groups. Highly recommend H20 Adventures if you're looking for an adventure on the water!

Our tour and guide, Ethan, were GREAT! The half day tour was well organized, they provided gear to keep us warm, and our guide was extremely knowledgeable and skilled at river rafting. We had 4 kids with us and Ethan was patient and a great instructor. I highly recommend!!

Our family (2 parents and 2 kids ages 10 and 7) went rafting for the first time with H2O Adventures. Every aspect of the trip was amazing from the booking through checkin/safety briefing to rafting. It was our son’s 7th birthday and all the guides and other customers made sure it was a special day for him. Devon was our guide and he was fantastic! He was great with the kids and happy to talk about the history and ecology of the area. He was also clearly looking out for the safety of the other boats in our group throughout the tour. This half-day trip was a perfect introduction to rafting. On the bus back to the parking lot, we were already discussing when we would be heading out to raft again! Highly recommend!!!

Had an exciting and memorable time with Kevin as our guide! We went down the Troublemaker Rapids on the South Fork and we had more rapids and much less calm water than we have experienced before and we loved it! The only thing we wish we had done different is book a full-day rather than a half-day. Went with my 9, 12 and 15 year old daughters. Highly recommend!

This was our children's (age 12 and 7) first experience of rafting and they loved it! We had James and he was very knowledgeable and made us feel very safe. I didn't realise until we saw the photos quite how under water we'd been on the grade 3 rapids!!

Our group had 7 people and 3 of the 4 could not swim. We all had so much fun and can’t wait to do it again. A BIG shout out to Marina and Steph!! They were awesome tour guides with so much knowledge. They made our experience extra special and fun. Our driver Steve was also very friendly. I can’t speak for other white rafting companies, but H20 is safe and fun!! We can’t wait to book another trip down the river.

10 families, 41 smiles and shrieks of laughter throughout the 3 hours and so many memories made. We had the most memorable time. Our guides were amazing and made sure we had the best time possible. Thank you to Lexie who had to deal with 6 boys (10-16) in my raft with limited attention spans: she was so patient! This was my second time w/ h20 adventure and I will continue to use their company. Excellent customer service. Until next year!

Fantastic trip with H2O down the southfork river for our first family raft experience. Excellent guiding by James who took care of us and made sure it wasn’t too rough for those that didn’t want that sort of experience. Next stop Grade 4!

We had a GR8 afternoon on the South Fork on Sunday, 7/16/23! There were 35 in our group and all our river guides were the best! We had Cassidy! She did an Amazing job helping us to hit all the FUN places!! We paddled, got wet, swam, laughed, paddled more, and repeated the sequence all afternoon! And most of us jumped off the high rock! I highly recommed H2O Adventures!! You will have a safe, great time!!
