Excellent sunrise on Pico and then very pleasant hiking with beautiful views. Paulo full of hospitality and took tea and cake for the early breakfast, took care during the hike and told a lot of interesting things about the country. Strongly recommend!

Had the best time with Paulo during the Pico De Arieiro to Pico Ruivo Hike! He was really helpful answering my questions before the hike and he was really kind during the hike. Paolo is an excellent guide, with much knowledge of the entire island. He is an extremely experienced hiker and guide, and had great awareness of our group’s needs and abilities. He sensed when to take breaks and when to push on, and made the hike feel enjoyable and not rushed. Pick-up and drop-off ;(Calheta, Ponta do Sol, Ribeira Brava, Câmara de Lobos, Funchal, Caniço, Machico, Santana, Porto da Cruz, São Jorge, São Vicente, Porto Moniz), starts at 06:00 am but may change due to distance.
What to expect
Sunrise at Pico do Areeiro more walk to the Pedra Rija ( 2.5 km total) because the rest of the route is closed.
Start with observation of the sunrise at Pico do Areeiro (optional) after starting the walk up to Pedra Rija and back, this route located in the central mountainous massive offers magnificent views of all its surrounding landscape, valleys, mountains, villages, local history and customs, fauna and flora, visit to the Ninho da Manta, then we will go to the Achada do Teixeira by car where we will make the route of 2.5 kilometers to the Pico Ruivo plus 2.5 kilometers of return to the car.
The second option is to take a tour by car to the pools of Porto Moniz and we will see the entire North Coast and its most beautiful places. This activity is private group up to 4 people.

It usually starts at 6:00 am, if the option is to just take the walk without sunrise, it starts at 8:30 am.
