Your Itinerary

Paia

We will start the tour in Paia town where I will drive you through the town explaining some history and doing some people watching.

Kula

We will stop at the world famous Kula lodge. The views are amazing and there are usually some Jackson chameleons hanging out on the Avocado trees. This is the last stop for any food or beverage before sunset. The ladies here can be cranky and it’s always fun to see what kind of cynical comments they have for the crowd.

Haleakala Crater

We have arrived at the crate. The crater is 26 miles in diameter. You could just fit Manhattan inside of it. On a good day you can see every island except Kauai. Temperatures can be cool here but have no fear I have gear if needed. Some nights jackets and wind pants make for a more comfortable viewing of Sunset. I will take many photos and videos for you to enjoy later. We will head down at Sunset and have incredible views of the sun going down as we drop 10000ft.

Admission Included

Haleakala National Park

Second stop is at 7000 ft and this is where we can change into some gear. There is a ranger station here and some Nene nest here as well. There is a small garden of Silversword here as well and restrooms.

This was an excellent tour. Shannon was our tour guide and she was very knowledgeable. I learned so much from her about the people and the island, past and present. She was also an excellent driver, and I felt very safe. This was the highlight of my trip. She took some really cool photos of people jumping with the clouds behind us because we are up above the clouds and it was so cool. I know some people think they can do some of these tours on their own which they can but in this case, we found that a lot of parking lots were full, so she knew exactly how to deal with that and where to go so that we are still able to see the sunset from the mountain.

This is a small operation and there’s nothing wrong with it. We got the owner’s father instead of the owner as promised and we were in a mini van instead of the Cadillac Escalade we were promised. Neither of those were deal breakers or bad. Aside from that we had a good time and sunset was spectacular.

Terry entertained us from start to finish! Snacks and drinks were provided. He also had plenty of jackets, etc for the colder temps. Definitely recommend!

The weather was perfectly for an awesome sunset. The cloud layer below made us feel like we were walking on air. We had a special surprise when one of the couple got engaged. Shannon did a great job and made it fun!

Maui Hoppin - sunset Tour with Eric - absolutely a must. This was perfect, we had three in our party along with three other tourists.

This one is hard to rate. The sunset was gorgeous - stunning, actually, and we had a great spot to view it, pretty much all our own. I’d give that 5 stars. Our tour guide, on the other hand, wasn’t so great. We learned more about Terry and his life and adventures than about the crater or the island. And he was quite a name dropper. The piece de resistance was when he said he had “sold a used tractor to Lawrence Welk’s cousin.” Plus he drove like a banshee down the mountain, cutting corners and going too fast for the curves. The tour itself is worth it, just watch who’s driving.

Fun trip, great views of the sunset, mild weather and had good time with the group. Terry was a fun guide, very knowledgeable .

We used Maui Hoppin to see sunset atop Haleakea. Our guide was very informative, showed us many points of interest and telling us how things came to be, both past and recent history. They provided drinks, snacks, warm jackets and blankets. Based on this tour, I would recommend Maui Hoppin for any of their island tours.

Great time. Shannon was an excellent guide. Very knowledge, as well as fun to talk with and entertaining. Small group so things were flexible and she was totally willing to go with the flow and adjust as needed. Gave us all ideas on how to take the best photos. Drinks and simple snacks provided were appreciated.

We were drawn to this tour because it offered a more private opportunity to explore Haleakala as opposed to doing so with a bus full of other people. Shannon, our guide, was very personable and a delight to spend time with. Her knowledge of the area was extensive, and we came away learning so much about area. Although it was an overcast evening, it was still worth the drive up to the top to experience the expansive view from 10,000 feet. The higher up you go, the cooler and windier it gets. While we planned for this, our guide had warm jackets if additional layers were needed. At the end of the tour, the drop-off directly at the Pride of America pier was greatly appreciated.
