Your Itinerary

Loch Ness Region

We will take you down the road less traveled, taking in the magnificant Loch Ness as we go as well as learning all about the myths and legends of the Loch and surrounding area. Our first stop will be opposite the famous Urquhart Castle before reaching the hamlet of Foyers.

The Falls of Foyers

Our main activity will be taking in the wonderful waterfall in the middle of a stunning forest with towering Douglas Firs as well as ancient Caledonian Pines. Our guests will be guided through the forest, following the river where they will appear on the shores of Loch Ness for a truly stunning view! No other tour company takes you here and our guests are usually the only ones enjoying this secret spot! After we walk back up to the car park, we will stop for some home baking and refreshments in the local cafe. Please note that this walk is approx. 2 hours and includes a decent / ascent of 200m so a degree of fitness is required to undertake the full walk. As this is a private experience, we can discuss our guest's preferences at this point.

Dores

We will make our way back towards Inverness via a small country road, providing stunning views of the heather clad hills and various lochs before taking in the loch from over 250m above and decending down to the village of Dores where you can walk along the pebble beach to take in the vastness of the loch looking from the top right down to the bottom.

Clava Cairns

The ancient and mysterious site of Clava Cairns are 4000 year old burial chambers, (cairns) that offers tempting clues and little else but our imagination to guess as to the full purpose of these large circular cairns, but one thing is certain, you will leave with a feeling of visiting something very special! For Outlander fans - This is a must as the cairns are the inspiration for none other that Craig Na Dun!

Culloden Battlefield

Our last stop of the day before we return you to your accommodation will be the famous, yet stirring field of Drummossie Moor and the site of the Battle of Culloden. Depending on what we have discussed at the start of the day, this will be either a 30 min stop to walk around the battlefield or a 1.5 hour experience, taking in the fantastic visitor centre, for complete immersion! (additional charge for visitor centre)

Our time on the shore at Invergordon was going to be only several hours, and we are so glad we had Jamie as our guide! Having verified our cruise arrival time, he offered to meet us an hour earlier than the stated tour time so we could get the most out of our day. We met up him on the shore and from there, it was like a day we got to spend with a friend who knew so much about the area's history and lore. We stayed pretty close to the stated itinerary, but never felt rushed or overtaken by other tourists, and we had a luxury of having a personal guide with us. The hike down to Loch Ness was tough but we took the time and were rewarded with a serene view virtually to ourselves, which we couldn't have had we booked a shore excursion with fellow cruise tourists. Jamie even helped us realize our bucket list item to have real Scottish haggis by giving us time to eat at a pub in Inverness and made a bonus stop at a clootie well on Black Isle on the way back to the port, dropping us off 10minutes before the All Aboard time. All in all, we felt taken care of all day, and had a very memorable time visiting somewhat undiscovered parts of Scotland. The day ended up being one of the highlights of our British Isles cruise. Thank you Jamie.

This "tour" was wonderful! I say "tour" because it was more like a day out with a friend. Jamie is so friendly and knows everything about Scotland and it's sights and special places. We hiked down and up around LochNess. He kept the hiking pace down for me without showing that he was keeping it down. Much appreciated! He explained as much as we wanted to hear about Clava Cairns and Culloden and took us beautiful places around Loch Ness that were so peaceful and without bunches of other tourists. We will remember this day as one of the best of the whole trip!

Me and my friend are both lovers of the Highlands and on our first trip we were so lucky to end up staying at Jamie and Heather’s! We had such a great time that we decided to visit again a year after (beginning of 2020). The tours with Jamie are exceptional, you still get to see the more touristic bits such as the Clava Cairns and Loch Ness but always connected to a more sustainable and therefore exclusive (and breathtaking) trail. Ullapool, Corrieshalloch Gorge, Inchnadamph Bone Caves, Glen Affric to name a few. He is the perfect mix between knowledgeable and fun, and he and Heather (and the gorgeous little ones) make you really feel at home, so we’ll definitely keep coming back as soon as the situation allows it! ♥️
