What to expect
The Roaches Peak District
The Roaches is a prominent rocky ridge above Leek and Tittesworth Reservoir in the Peak District of England. The ridge with its rock formations rises steeply to 505 m and in clear conditions, it is possible to see much of Cheshire and views stretching as far as Snowdon in Wales and Winter Hill in Lancashire. The Roaches are the most prominent part of a curving ridge which extends for several miles from Hen Cloud in the south to Back Forest and Hangingstone in the northwest. At the top there is a small pool called Doxey Pool that is, according to legend, inhabited by a water spirit. My personal love is the feel and spirit of the rocks, eroded through time with their own personal worn over time characteristics. Great for photo shots. There are tales of Doug the Hermit who lived in the rocks and also sightings of Wallabies, released from a local zoo many years ago.
Lud's Church
Entering deep into this moss filled crevice you get an eerie sense of ghosts and forest spirits. The 'church' is often used for Pagan ceremonies but has its history in the meeting place for the Lollards, who were followers of John Wycliffe, an early church reformer in the early 15th century.
The experience can be subject to change due to bad weather or unforseen circumstances. We always endeavour to give you the best possible experience.
