We took this tour today with John. We agree with every other review that he is an unbeatable tour guide! Very knowledgeable, a born raconteur, great sense of humor. He packed centuries into our 2.5 hour tour. Highlights for us included the Castle (of course) and Victoria Street (very quaintly Scottish, all independently owned small businesses). Afterward, we took his advice and visited the Museum of Scotland. He actually had many great tips of things to see and do after the tour.

John provides a fabulous introduction to Edinburgh-its history and its idiosyncrasies. He is part historian, part raconteur, part comedian. We hit all the highlights of Old Town and then some. My husband and I were his only clients that day. Too bad because he could have entertained 100 of us. Along the way, he also offered helpful tips and recommendations of things to do when the weather gets bad (as it will). Would 💯 recommend this tour if you have never explored this area!!!

John was a fantastic tour guide! His tour was a great way to start our visit to Edinburgh. He hit some highlights on the Royal Mike but also took us to visit some other historical spots. His historical knowledge was extensive. He was very nice and gave some great restaurant recommendations.

John, our guide, was excellent. His passion and enthusiasm was evident in his narrative about the history of the area and its culture. We will definitely seek this tour again upon our return. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Edinburough.

John was a fantastic guide. We were the only ones booked and, though he could have, he didn't just "mail it in". He treated us like VIPs. We felt like we saw and learned everything we could have in the time we had. John even recommended a place for trying haggis (which always gets a bum rap). We'd stop short of delicious but certainly not deserving of its 'reputation'.

My guide (John) was such a knowledgeable man, who showed me parts of olde town I would never have known existed before. He gave me such an in depth history of each building we visited, I felt I was back there when they were first built. I even mentioned the series I loved called Outlander and he took me to one of the buildings they used for the filming - I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Thank-You.

My husband and I highly recommend this walking tour with John early in your visit. It’s highly entertaining and an excellent introduction to Edinburgh, its sites, a bit of history, and some quirky facts. Would be enjoyed by both first time and repeat visitors. It was especially useful in helping navigate the winding streets of Old Town and prevented our getting lost all week.

John has an amazing tour guide style!! So knowledgeable and friendly! I booked his Edinburgh castle tour based on my experience on this lively old town walk. His recommendations are right on for spots on Victoria St. Try it, you’ll love it!!
