Victor from Viator/Border Tours was just amazing! He was warm, welcoming and so knowledgeable. My family was so happy with all the places Victor took us to. He made us feel safe and the experience alone in Tijuana was very unique. We learned a lot about the culture and we are so grateful to Victor for being so awesome! If you want an amazing tour in TJ…make sure to request Victor!! ;) Note to traveler: Bring your smaller bills, as you will get your change in pesos.

Everything went very well! Our guide Tadeo was waiting for us punctually at the arranged time. He did a great job showing us the city and explaining the history of Tijuana. Tadeo was absolutely fun to hang out with. We had great conversations and enjoyed local food (and drinks 😊). The whole tour felt totally safe. Would definitely recommend this tour!

Tour guide never showed up, never returned phone calls or emails. Asked for a refund and never heard back.

Parking at the border is very difficult on the US side. Consider parking at a Metro Station then taking the Blue Line to San Ysidro. Metro cards (Pronto!) are available at all Metro stations ($2 for the card plus the cost of each ride). The Metro stop immediately before San Ysidro is Beyer Blvd. Give yourself 45 - 60 min to park and cross into Mexico. New border crossing requirements meant US citizens must cross into Mexico (all the way across the walking bridge) and the tour guide meets the group at the bottom of the bridge. Its a short walk - maybe 5 - 8 min. Before you leave the US, be certain you check with Border Patrol for any new and unexpected requirements for US citizens to return from Mexico. We crossed both ways with a US Passport and COVID vaccine card. Unvaccinated persons may have testing requirements - check BEFORE you leave US soil! Be ready to walk / stand for 4 - 5 hours in Tijuana. You can shop with MXN (pesos) or USD (dollars) and bring a bag or backpack to bring your stuff home. Money exchange options are available at the border (US side). Do not flash cash or use big bills for your own safety. Understand the exchange rate if you use MXN. All Tijuana stores and restaurants will negotiate (even if you don't think they will). The tour was very enjoyable. We took a Tijuana taxi van to downtown, walked around for a few hours, then took a taxi van back to the border. We stopped at historical sites, tourist sites, for tacos (excellent food), margarita and tequila tasting, and shopping. The tour guide takes several group photos (presumably for marketing purposes). The stops are pre-arranged and the businesses were expecting us. It was very efficient and we were in and out despite being a group of 9 (3 couples who didn't know each other before that day). Our tour guide spoke fluent English and Spanish and lead an informative tour. The wait to walk back into the US was long and we were glad were in a big group. Many panhandlers, vendors, and begging children will likely approach you in line at the border. We were warned to NOT accept any offers to "skip the line on a bus" because they were scams. You can get food from walking vendors while you're waiting in line to go back to the US. The food is quite good and the vendors are mostly honest. If you give money to panhandlers or children, more will come and ask for money too. They may even swarm around you if they see money. Don't give money to anyone but a vendor, use small bills ($1 or $5), and don't flash cash or flip through a wad of bills. The tour was excellent! Despite the ad indicating the trip is 4-5 hrs, the time needed to park, walk to Tijuana, and return to the US will make this an all-day event. The tour is worth the cost and very, very enjoyable. Our guide was Humberto and he was outstanding!

I really enjoyed this tour and I for one am so glad I extended my trip to SD to go on it. If you're coming to SD this is definitely something you have to do before you leave. First, off the tour guide, I had Andres, was phenomenal. He was super accommodating to everyone and worked hard to make sure everyone had the TJ experience they wanted. At some point, we broke apart into smaller groups because some people wanted to stay behind and shop a little longer at the Tequila store we stopped at, while the rest of us went to the markets. He jumped back between both groups checking in and making sure everyone was safe, happy, and getting the best deals if they were shopping. I really appreciated that he was a local which meant he was able to provide us with information about how the city has changed in the last ten years. It was nice to hear his enthusiasm and passion about TJ in addition to the mini-history lesson he was able to give about Mexico. He was also nice enough to play photographer for everyone and share our trips photos with us after the tour. The trip starts at the border/train station where the tour guide will cross with you. After we crossed the border we went to one of the Mexican Markets, I believe it was Mercado Hildago. The market was great for grabbing some small souvenirs to bring home to people, and various fruits and snacks. It has more to offer beyond that, but fewer stores compared to when you go downtown. After that, we visited a local taco stand that was close to the market and had a delicious lunch. From lunch, we went to the Tijuana Cultural Center. Unfortunately, when we were there it was partially closed because the pandemic was only beginning to wind down. From there we went to downtown TJ. While downtown we went to a Tequila shop where I was able to buy some Mezcal for my family and visited some of the smaller local stores. I would recommend shopping here if you want to buy some souvenirs, there are more stores to select from downtown. Downtown was a fun place to walk through this was where you could more character of the city and the TJ's iconic arch/clock. After downtown, we headed back to the border with Andres and crossed back over without any problems. Recommendations I have for this trip would be to pull out more than about 20 USD. I pulled out about a 100 and found that wasn't enough for me but I was at the end of my trip and planning to bring some nice quality souvenirs to my family who hasn't been to Mexico in over 20 years. I ended up using my credit card while shopping and didn't have any problems after. I'd also recommend good walking shoes. We didn't walk a lot but if you're not used to walking it will make a difference.

Fernando was simply amazing. Knowledgable, friendly, flexible in timing and passionate. Hands down, next time I’m in the area I’m booking again!

Let all your scepticisms fade from your thoughts. This is a very safe and wonderful tour. Marta is very attentive and mindful of her group. I would recommend this tour. We had a great day.

Super fun and interesting. Martha did an amazing job guiding us through the city and was flexible with our pace and needs (we wanted churros and she was happy to lead us to a great street stand). We left Mexico with great memories/pictures, a full belly and feeling like we had made a friend there.

We had a fun day touring Tijuana with our guide Martha and another couple. We visited the spice market, the cultural center, the border wall and the downtown. We had time to try some amazing coffee and also tacos. The tour company uses public transportation so it feels like an authentic experience. Martha really went out of her way to make us all feel comfortable and included. Highly recommended

This is my 1st walking tour, it was the best tour of all tours I have been on. Martha was very knowledgeable, informative, and a great communicator. There were no delays in the entry processes, fast and quick. I met two nice families on the tour, two pre-teens from Utah were a blessing, they helped me with translation when we went exploring Mexican shops/restaurants. Although this a cultural tour, you will be allowed to shop and eat so bring additional money.
