Castelo de Tomar
The Knights Templar were a Catholic military order that had a strong presence in Central Portugal. Discover the history of these knights while exploring the City of Tomar and the Convent of Christ
Batalha Monastery
This exceptional architectural ensemble is the result of the fulfillment of a promise made by King João I of Portugal in gratitude for the victory in Aljubarrota, a battle fought on August 14th 1385, which secured the throne and guaranteed the independence of Portugal. It is one of the most beautiful works of Gothic and Manueline architecture. Nowadays, Batalha Monastery is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Monastery of Alcobaca
World Heritage by UNESCO. Work on this 12th-century monument began in 1178 and lasted for 100 years, going through several stages of construction. The Monastery of Alcobaça is known for its impressive Gothic architecture and the greatest love story in the history of Portugal – the tragic passion of D. Pedro and D. Inês de Castro.
Nazare
Located on the coast of Central Portugal, a land of legends and traditions, sea and fishing, and simple and friendly people, Nazaré still has the authenticity that inspired writers and dazzled artists. Portugal’s most famous fishing village, Nazaré also has beaches with great spots for surfing, bodyboarding, Tow-In, and SUP lovers. In 2011, Garrett McNamara broke the world record for the largest surfed wave (30 meters) at ‘Canhão da Nazaré’.
Castelo de Obidos
Óbidos is one of the most perfect examples of our medieval fortress. In olden times, the town was entered through the southern gate of Santa Maria, embellished with eighteenth-century azulejo decoration. Inside the walls, which at sunset take on a golden color, one can sense a cheerful medieval ambience of winding streets, old whitewashed houses bordered with blue or yellow, Manueline embrasures and windows, reminding us that King D. Manuel I (sixteenth century) carried out major works here, and masses of colorful flowers and plants.
