A complete 5 STAR experience!! We loved every moment with Diogo who was an exceptionally educated and enthusiastic guide. We could not have asked for more and appreciated his obvious love for his job which translated into an incomparable customized experience for us! My family was worried about an 8 hour tour but at the end everyone said it was their favorite tour of our trip. Thank you Diogo for spending the day with us!

Key points from our trip: -The tour should be labeled and priced as a private driver and no guide -The guide Goncalo P showed up an hour late -Our day was 1.5 hours at Pena Palace, 10 minutes at Cabo Da Roca, a lunch, and 30 minutes in Cascais -Guide didn’t provide a tour of Pena Palace -We didn’t see the Moorish Castle or downtown Sintra -Stream of lies and deception between the guide and Luis from LRS Private Tours Hands down the lowlight of my trip in Portugal and a waste of money. The description is inaccurate and the tour guide and operators blame each other for who is wrong/misleading. The tour guide was an hour late, told us he “was told not to guide us in Pena Palace” then told his boss we told him we didn’t want a guide when confronted. Guide said there was no time to see Moorish Castle. Goncalo also said we must pick between Downtown Sintra OR Cabo da Roca and Guincho beach even though we paid for both. We elected for the beach which was fine, but about a 10-minute visit. The restaurant we went to for lunch (per guide’s recommendation) was good, but the most expensive meal we had in Portugal. Caiscais was nice, but we didn’t have much time there. The real kicker to our experience was when we confronted the guide about our experience and our subsequent interactions with his boss, Luis from LRS. Luis wanted to speak with the guide before we finished our trip, so we told Goncalo to give him a call. They spoke in Portuguese so naturally we couldn’t follow along, but what we heard afterwards was quite surprising. Goncalo never told his boss he was an hour late despite telling us earlier that he called Luis. Goncalo also told Luis several lies about our day and trip: he was on time, we said we didn’t want a guided tour of the palace, we didn’t want to walk anywhere – all complete lies. If we hadn’t paid $800 for five of us to book this tour I wouldn’t have made a huge deal, but this was a complete scam. We could have booked a taxi and our own tickets for a fraction of the cost and had the same experience. Luis was combative and refused to make an offer beyond 150 euros so we took it up with Viator who was able to recoup 50% of our cost – still complete garbage.

Our guide/driver was great, he was knowledgeable and kind. He took us to a couple extra places as we had extra time. My only feedback was that I had hoped he could have come inside Pena Palace with us, but he just took us around the grounds and then we viewed the inside on own.

Was supposed to be a full day tour for me and my wife but started with the tour guide, Ana, being 45 minutes late to our hotel with no explanation, then, only wanted to go to Pena Palace and then took us to an expensive restaurant. I asked for a refund to the tour operator, LRS Private Tours, and was rejected, saying we got what we were promised. What a rip off.

We had a wonderful tour of the Mouros Castle and Pena Palace yesterday. Our guide Gonzalo provided many extra details in the Pena Palace that we would not have learned on our own. The tour also included a stop the western most point in Europe, which had spectacular views and a lunch in Cacais at Mar do Guincho. The lunch was one of the most enjoyable of our meals in Portugal. We would highly recommend this tour.

Unfortunately this tour was the most disappointing experience of our entire time traveling. The description here on Viator is completely misleading and the tour operator (LRS Private Tours) and the tour guide continues to blame each other while making up lies about me and my group. Our guide was Goncalo P(there are two Goncalos at this company). This tour would be better branded as a private driver with no guide included. Our day only consisted of 1.5 hours at Pena Palace, 10 minutes at Cabo Da Roca, a lunch and 30 mins in Cascais. We were really looking forward to this trip, but we were met with an uninterested tour guide who showed up late and was unable to deliver on any of our expectations. In addition to not visiting the Moorish Castle or downtown Sintra, our guide did not join us in Pena Palace. Rather, he gave us a map, pointed us in the direction and asked us to be back at a certain time. While in the palace, I met another LRS guide at and he was made aware of our dissatisfaction. He apologized, and assured me he’d speak with Luis to let him know hour day was going. He also verified that our guide should have been in the palace with us and that we were not receiving the appropriate experience. After leaving the palace, I asked our guide why he did come and provide a tour. He immediately got defensive, complained about his tour company for providing unreasonable expectations of the day and said he was never instructed to join us to provide a personal tour of the palace. He told me to take it up with the company and I decided I would wait to see how the remainder of the day would go. Despite being incredibly uncomfortable with his hostile attitude, we were determined to make the best of our day.  I asked our guide what was next on the itinerary and he indicated we must pick either Downtown Sintra OR Cabo da Roca and Guincho beach. I expressed that we booked visits to both on this tour. He went on that the description is inaccurate and he and the other guides have asked his boss to revise the listing. Again rather disappointing. We ultimately settled on going to the beach and finishing out our day.  On our way back to our hotel, I decided to reach out to LRS and begin my complaint. Luis from LRS called me and said he would need to speak with the guide, who was ignoring his calls, and that once he spoke with him he’d have a better understanding of what happened.  I asked our guide to call Luis and they had a conversation in front of me in Portuguese that I could not understand. The guide drove off and Luis called me back. Luis went on to explain all the lies his guide told him about the day. That he was on time, that we didn’t want to walk, and that we weren’t interested in the history. I, nor anyone in my group, EVER made any of those statements. We asked questions and tried to get engaged but we were met with a guide who was completely checked out. I was personally offended and upset when I heard those lies AND that Luis was prepared to believe everything the guide said. Why would we book a private 8 hour tour for over $800 to see such sights if we were uninterested? I could have taken a cab myself if that were the case. Luis defended his guide while admitting he is REGULARLY LATE and then offered me a 150 Euro refund after I requested a full refund. I did not accept. I urged him to call his other guide to verify my story. After speaking with that guide, Luis called us back, said he did verify our story, and that he would provide a refund of 250 euro. I then indicated I wanted to move on with this and that I would like a 50% refund. He said no, told me to take it up with Viator and then hung up.  I truly don’t even feel like a 50% refund is satisfactory, but I want this to go away and I want to move on. The services we received were hardly worth $200. Thankfully, Viator was able to verify my story against the tour company and I did in fact receive my refund. I am only leaving this review to try and warn others. They since seem to have updated the Viator listing a bit, but please be cautious when considering this tour.

The pena palace was awesome. Views at moorish castle were also amazing. Our tour guide was about 30% engaged with us during the day, though. He seemed more interested in his phone than he did in giving us information about what we were seeing. He seemed bored and uninterested. We tried asked questions and engaging with him several times and would get basic answers. The car did not have AC as promised and the water provided was only one .3 liter bottle for an 8 hour day. There was also no notice for the level of physical activity that was needed. “Moderate physical activity” listed on the tour page was not enough to know that there are so many steps and uphill walking required. I would have dressed differently and worn a knee brace had I known that more preparation was needed.

Overall we loved the Moorish Castle and Pena Palace tour. Anna is very friendly, personable and knowledgeable. As opposed to most tourists, we had no interest in souvenir shopping but enjoyed touring beech town. The restaurant was good but somewhat overpriced. Would definitely recommend the tour to others.

The tour was amazing. Our tour guide was on time to pick us up, navigated all the locations with ease, gave us great information and answered all of our questions. He took us to a nice place in Sintra to stop for lunch after touring the Pena Palace and the Moorish Castle. Then we did a lovely drive along the coast, stopping in Cascais before he dropped us at the airport. It was a very enjoyable day and I think we were lucky that the traffic and crowds were fairly light so we had no problems at all.
