I highly recommend visiting this museum with guide, Michele, who has such great knowledge and passion for the history. Michele had me in awe and had me excited learning about Roman history, the displayed artifacts, Taranto, Italy, Puglia region, etc. He interpreted information to me in English and I was very thankful. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to soak it all in. This is an incredible museum and not to be missed when in Puglia! Enjoy!

Museum is open until 19:30. We arrived at 18:45 and were warned that there was a lot to see, and that we wouldn’t have enough time but decided to go in anyway and whizz round. There IS a lot to see, very interesting and with English translations, we regretted not allowing more time. However, by 19:10, staff were screaming “USCITA! USCITA!” at us and we were forced to leave, having paid €9 each for 25 minutes of viewing with staff trailing us. Lesson learned.

The beautifully decorated (and completely renovated since a previous visit) museum is very proud of its latest acquisition: a group of statues of Orpheus and two Sirens. They were sold in pieces as looted art to the Paul Getty Museum in L.A., but have been back in Italy since April 2023.

Taranto Museum visited last August 2023 with my family, passing through the beautiful Puglia. This museum has numerous archaeological artefacts of very high historical value, with the possibility of taking an extraordinary tour. Highly recommended together with the visit to the Aragonese Castle.

On Sunday 5 November I went to the archaeological museum of Taranto. I had already been to the museum many times and I even worked there for a very short period.
I decided, with some friends, to go there on the first Sunday of the month to visit the new exhibition.
I found the museum quite changed and full of new works and this made me very happy. The last exhibition, Orpheus and the Sirens, is done very very well. The statues have been placed in the center of the room so that all visitors can walk around them and see them from any point and illuminated with the right light. Perhaps the destination should be a little more detailed but otherwise it's fine. The mermaid's curls were also displayed in a showcase.
Everything almost perfect except the staff. I, my friends and all the people present in the museum at a certain point (7.25 pm) were kicked out because we were out of hours and the museum had to close. Not happy, the staff also raised their voices at a tourist complaining and saying that they were there for free.
I conclude by saying:
Exhibitions of works 10, itinerary 10, personal exhibition 0.

Archaeological museum very rich in valuable finds clearly displayed with bilingual captions. The visit takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes if you want to appreciate the abundance and beauty of the pieces present. Friendly and competent staff

Absolutely not to be missed if within a 200 km radius...one of the most popular Italian museums...congratulations to all those who work there to make it as enjoyable as possible! The historical part is excellent....but truly a wonder to see!!!!

A surreal experience. We visited the beautiful Museum in the morning with the acoustic background of an 'agora' in the midst of economic activities: voices and readings of explanatory panels in very high tones, visitors who believed they were in an 'open-air market'. To complete this terrible visit, a group of visitors who gravitated around a small girl, with jokes, jokes, screams of jubilation, continuous screaming.
When I turned to a security guard on the second floor asking if all that chaos was normal (which even set off the security alarm) I was told that 'children are like that' and that it is often even worse.
I advise you to purchase a museum catalog and appreciate in the right conditions the beauties preserved by this museum.

Beautiful cultural experience
Wealth of precisely described finds
Precise indications on the route and the visit from the staff.
The only discrepancy is the free ticket for teachers but I was not able to take advantage of the free ticket even though I am a teacher. A registered school certificate was needed, certifying the service.
It is not even possible to use the teachers' card to purchase the ticket, precisely because the museum is free for teachers, in short, contradictions and misunderstandings.
In the rest of Italy, in other museums it was enough to show the identity card indicating the teaching profession to benefit from reductions or free admission.
It's a shame that Italy is never "one", the Ministry of Education instead is...
It's not polemical, just for reflection.
