What to expect
CR7 Museum
Primary pick-up location. Or any hotel or apartment in Funchal Downtown. Any pick-up outside the primary location at the CR7 museum, please let us know in advance.
Miradouro do Cabo Girão
Leaving Funchal we climb one of the many roads in Madeira Island with a gradient of over 30%. heading towards the famous Cabo Girão cliff known for its famous glass-floored infrastructure from where you can see the famous fajãs at its feet and the West of Funchal City.
We leave towards the West of the Island already starting to use the paths that have been cut through the mountains from Campanário. there we will be able to observe the work done by our ancestors in the execution of one of the world heritage sites nominated by UNESCO, I am talking about the famous terraces of Madeira Island. This type of ancestral construction is nothing more than the construction of stone walls of volcanic origin to add to the cultivation area on the slopes of the island. After observing these constructions we will make a brief stop at the São Sebastião belvedere situated 170 metres above sea level and where there is an ideal point to observe the only valley in Madeira Island that cuts through it from north to south.
We leave towards the village of Ponta do Sol leaving the tunnel that gives access to the village, inside a pond existing in the roundabout we can observe a statue of modern traces that pays homage to the famous terraces of Madeira Island and we can observe that the main cultivation existing in the terraces is the famous Madeira banana tree. We will make a shortstop, where it is possible to visit a small Roman arch bridge made with basalt stone, an ideal place for photographs over the bay.
Cascata dos Anjos
After the stop in Ponta do Sol, we use the old regional road where we can observe how the old tunnels of Madeira Island used to be, they were dug by hand and opened with explosives. We can contemplate from the panoramic roof of our UMM the Basalt dome without any coating. Between the tunnels, we can also observe the old Royal Road nº23. We then stop at the famous Cascata dos Anjos, famous on social networks for its spectacular photos.
Madalena do Mar
Starting from the Cascata dos Anjos and using the entire Madalena do Mar waterfront, we can contemplate how the sea and the terraces full of banana trees co-exist harmoniously. The micro-climate of this region allows the production of excellent quality Madeira bananas.
Prazeres
On the way up from Calheta we stop at one of the famous Poncha taverns where you will find a variety of flavours. Drinks not included.
Ponta do Pargo Lighthouse
Continuing our tour we head towards Ponta do Pargo. The westernmost point of Madeira Island. Inaugurated in 1922, the lighthouse is situated on the westernmost tip of the island, standing on a cliff at an altitude of 290 metres. Erected on Ponta da Vigia, 290 metres above sea level, Ponta do Pargo lighthouse started operating on June 5th 1922 and dominates the cliff top. The tower is 14 metres high and its focus is at an altitude of 312 metres.
Following the old regional road we arrive at a small village located between the north and the south, where we can see a small cable car that gives access to an existing fajã at sea level, where agriculture is still practised and also vineyards that take advantage of the micro-climate to produce excellent wine. Cable car tickets not included.
Lunch Stop at Santa - Porto Moniz (food and drinks not included) Recommended to bring the snack with you or we can help you book a place to eat.
Leaving Santa we head towards the beautiful natural pools of volcanic origin. Stop for photos. Access to beach complex not included.
Sao Vicente
After leaving Porto Moniz we will become familiar with the north coast and its lush flora from the rugged mountains down to sea level and then we understand why this part of Madeira Island is called the Hawaii of Europe, known also for its good surfing spots. Amongst this luxuriant vegetation, we can observe the countless waterfalls that begin on the plateau above 1000 metres high and that throughout the year flow towards the sea, providing a breathtaking landscape.
