What to expect
Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias
The City of Arts and Sciences is the most important modern tourist destination in the city. Located at the former riverbed of the river Turia, that was drained and rerouted after the 1957 flood. Designed by Santiago Calatrava and Félix Candela, it was inaugurated in 1998 with the opening of L'Hemisfèric. Here we will see a stunning modern, ambitious and beautiful view.
Torres De Serrans
At this amazing example of Gothic Architecture, we will see two magnificent towers that were designed to defend one of the busiest City gates. Construction began in 1392 under the supervision of Pere Balaguer. The city walls were demolished in 1865 saving this important piece of history for us all to see. From the back of the towers we can see the pointed arches and the vaulted domes.
Mercat Central de Valencia
Here we will visit a very big and friendly market with various stands of food and goods. Originally occupied by itinerant markets, the Central market opened its doors in 1839. By the end of the nineteenth century, it was already too small for the city of Valencia, reason why, the city Council of Valencia summoned two contests for the construction of the new market.
Museu Historic de Sagunt
This museum will teach us about the Iberian-Roman period in the ancient Arse-Saguntum, the Romanisation process that floded the city with monuments, sculptures and mosaics. The exhibition hall, showing the preserved collections, is located in a historical 14th century building and reconstructs the history of Sagunto.
Teatre Roma De Sagunt
This semicircular Roman theatre built in the middle of the first century can seat up to 8000 spectators. It was declared Bien de Interés Cultural in 1896. It is located at the foot of the mountain crowned by Sagunto Castle. It consists of two parts: the cavea or grandstands, semicircular and composed by three orders of stands and the scaene, that rises to the height of the top of the grandstands porch.
Sagunto Castle
This castle that is over 2000 years old was declared a National Monument in 1931 and includes Iberian, Roman and medieval traces. During the Islamic period, the castle was known as Murbitar and Morvedre. The walls are largely Islamic in origin, with modifications that took place after the end of Islamic rule, with the defenses being strengthened and modernized. During the Napoleonic Wars in 1811, the French army laid siege to the castle, and were ultimately successful in taking it, after which the defenses were repaired.
La Lonja de la Seda
The Llotja de la Seda is a late Valencian Gothic-style civil building.
Valencia Cathedral
The Metropolitan Cathedral–Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady of Valencia, is a Roman Catholic parish church.
Basilica de la Virgen de los Desamparados
