We were quite exhausted having flown in that morning and toured the Vatican in the afternoon but we soon realized the experience was going to keep us fully engaged. The meet up was straightforward and our guides were both excellent (a person does the city tour leading up to the Colosseum and then then another takes over once you are inside). I believe Elisa was the name of our city tour guide and she did a great job of providing the interesting back stories connected to the layers of Rome we were seeing comparing it to Lasagna :). Once inside, we were treated to the details of the Colosseum itself which are enhanced I think by it being at night. Somehow it's easier to hear the echoes of the past at night, especially when the crowds are also MUCH smaller than other day tours we've taken. I agree with other reviewers that the little video stops were a little hokey but it didn't diminish the experience. Highly recommend!

Having seen the Colosseum by day last year with a friend, I decided to take my 17 year old son at night. There were no crowds like there are in the daytime. The experience is much more intimate. The weather was perfect and our guide did a great job. The finishing touch on the tour was a short film from a gladiator’s perspective on the night before a fight, which we viewed right on the fighting floor. Highly recommend.

Guide was very knowledgeable was very pleasant answered questions very well made sure she was in contact with the group at all times and did not walk too fast ahead of the group.

We had an enjoyable evening on this tour which was more than just about the Colosseum it also shed light on the Forum and Ancient Rome thanks to our guide. Well worth doing when in this amazing city

This tour was the highlight of the entire trip for me and my husband: the emotion to enter in the Colosseum empty, understanding the grandiosity of the Roman Empire! I had tours in different nations and this was by far the best one I had in years of travels, absolutely unforgettable! I can't talk high enough of our superb guide, Elisa, a trained archeologist: she really added a truly insight to this tour and she has got a flawless english (the best english I've found in Italy, without italian accent). I took several tours and I was impressed about the way she is delivering the information, she is passionate and happy to share her incredible knowledge. She covered lots of material and answered every question, being engaging for all the evening. I will recommend this tour to anyone wanting to visit the Colosseum and I will not esitate to book with Rome Experience again. A big thank to Elisa for the spectacular tour, I absolutely loved it, she is the best guide you can have in Rome!

This is a wonderful tour. Seeing the colesseum at night gives a different perspective. The walk up to the colesseum was very interesting as u learn a lot abbout the ruins. The guide was great. Doing the tour at night was great as we were not with the crowds and the heat. The only issue is that there were not enough lights to truly see thw colesseum, like u would during the day.

Going at night was magical and far less crowded than during the day. Fascinating and educational tour. Our Guide was knowledgeable and kept the right pace.

We met our guide pretty far away from the Colosseum, so I was unsure where or how this was going to play out. It ended up he took us by many spots I had already seen that day, but did not know about. It intrigued me and frustrated me that I did not know this beforehand, because I felt like I wasted a lot of my day. That being said, he taught us so much and shared about the places and brought it more alive. When we got to the Colosseum he handed us over to actual archaeologist to take us on the tour and they were phenomenal bringing this alive and showing us the rich history. I fully recommend this tour and recommend it your very first night there.

The tour guide that took us to the Colosseum was excellent. We took a stroll through Plaza Venecia and other attractions on the way to the Colosseum, throughout the entire walk he was funny, informative and engaging. The ear-piece radio system was very clear and comfortable, making it easy to hear and understand what he was saying. Once we got to the Colosseum the tour fell apart. Due to Colosseum regulations, we had a different tour guide (who was an archaeologist) inside the Colosseum. He wasn't nearly as good and it went from feeling like a walk with a knowledgeable local friend to feeling like a boring lecture. Also, we had to use a different ear-piece radio system that was worse and uncomfortable. I highly recommend you bring your own earphones. The Colosseum was a lot less busy at night, it was great to avoid the crowds, but it isn't very well lit at so it was harder to appreciate everything. There were several media stops where a projection is displayed along with some audio, although cool in theory, the execution was lacking on some of the presentations. Several of them were hard to hear. Overall I would only recommend this if you REALLY want to go inside the Colosseum, otherwise just look at it from the outside and spend the money on a good meal. You're not missing much on the inside.

Our family of six traveled to Rome together for the first time this week. Several of us had been to Rome already so we were looking for different ways to enjoy the top sites. All of us, including those who had already been to the Colosseum thoroughly enjoyed our tour. There were 24 in our group so the headphones were a perfect solution to hearing everything our guide had to say. Our guide was young and energetic and very informative with pictures available on her IPad for us to view. She did a great job of managing the pacing and questions in our group. The walk to the Colosseum included a stop in the piazza on Capitoline Hill and a view of the forum with information on the history of these sites. That was great and included info none of us had heard before even after several trips and tours in Rome. The “archeologist” guide in the colosseum was also clearly interested in and knowledgeable about her subject. Our children, all in their 20s really had a great time and so did we. The only minor let-down were the several slightly weird short movies presented by the park. The translation was off and they really added nothing to the tour - would have liked more info instead on the Colosseum history through the ages, but that is not the fault of this tour company - it’s a Colosseum feature.
