Pointe du Hoc

In World War II, Pointe du Hoc was the location of a series of German bunkers and machine gun posts. Prior to the invasion of Normandy, the German army fortified the area with concrete casemates and gun pits. On D-Day, the United States Army Provisional Ranger Group attacked and captured Pointe du Hoc after scaling the cliffs. United States generals including Dwight D. Eisenhower had determined that the place housed artillery that could slow down nearby beach attacks. (Wikipedia)

Omaha Beach

Omaha Beach was one of five beach landing sectors designated for the amphibious assault component of Operation Overlord during the Second World War. On June 6, 1944, the Allies invaded German-occupied France with the Normandy landings. "Omaha" refers to an 8-kilometer (5 mi) section of the coast of Normandy, France, facing the English Channel, from east of Sainte-Honorine-des-Pertes to west of Vierville-sur-Mer on the right bank of the Douve River estuary. Landings here were necessary to link the British landings to the east at Gold with the American landing to the west at Utah, thus providing a continuous lodgement on the Normandy coast of the Bay of the Seine. Taking Omaha was to be the responsibility of United States Army troops, with sea transport, mine sweeping, and a naval bombardment force provided predominantly by the United States Navy and Coast Guard, with contributions from the British, Canadian and Free French navies. (Wikipedia)

Cimetiere Americain de Colleville-sur-Mer

The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial is a World War II cemetery and memorial that honors American troops who died in Europe during World War II. A memorial in the cemetery includes maps and details of the Normandy landings and military operations that followed. At the memorial's center is Spirit of American Youth Rising from the Waves, a bronze statue. The cemetery also includes two flag poles where, at different times, people gather to watch the American flags being lowered and folded. The cemetery, which was dedicated in 1956, is the most visited cemetery of those maintained by the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC), with one million visitors a year. In 2007, the ABMC opened a visitor center at the cemetery, relating the global significance and meaning of Operation Overlord. (Wikipedia)

Just the most amazing experience. We took my father to see a place he had only seen in cinema. He told me it was a highlight of his life after; just to understand and contextualize everything he thought he know about the war. The driver and the guide were the absolute best and professional across the board. This is the tour yo want to take.

Very informative excursion. Guide was excellent and had great insights and knowledge to share. Left with a real appreciation of the 2 World Wars and how they were “connected “.

Mariline, our guide was charming, kind, and impressively knowledgeable about the geography and history that brings people to the Normandy beaches. The Memoriale de Caen is one of the best museums I’ve ever seen. It chronicles the events leading to D-Day from the treaty of Versailles in 1919. Egocentric as most, it hadn’t occurred to me the devastation German occupation delivered on Normandy, especially Caen. I was most moved by Omaha beach today. It’s a lovely strip of shore where children play, teens splash, families stroll, and dogs gleefully run away from their people. Things heal.

This was a great tour to be able to see all of the big Normandy sites in a day. I commuted from Paris just for a day trip and felt it was well worth it. Our guide, Mario, was engaging, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable. Highly recommend this tour!

The American cemetery is such a great tribute to the soldiers that gave their lives in fight against fascism. So sad that so many young men and women had to die to stop Nazi's but there really was no alternative. The fight would have continued for many more years.

Our tour guide Mario was a brilliant guide who really knew his stuff, would strongly recommend this tour even at the price offered. I am somewhat of a history buff, but Mario knew the answers to all the questions. A fantastic tour. Our driver Andrea was brilliant as well, helped my mother out of the minivan whenever she was struggling.

I cannot thank Rozina enough for an utterly superb day out visiting the Memorial de Caen, Omaha Beach, Pointe de Hoc, the American War Cemetery and Arromanches. Her knowledge of WWII is outstanding and incredible. We were warmly greeted by Rozina and our driver for the day, Gregoire, at Caen train station and then proceded to travel to the Memorial de Caen. We were taken on an informative and emotional tour which lasted a good couple of hours. We had the opportunity to browse the wonderful gift shop and see the bunker before we sat down to enjoy a fabulous two course lunch, accompanied by wine! Afterwards, we travelled to Pointe de Hoc which gave us the opportunity to see the remnants of the look outs. It brought everything home as to what was life was back then. We then continued onto Omaha Beach and remembered those who sacrificed everything during WWII. Next, we went to the American Cemetery and saw the graves and a very moving ceremony. Finally, our magical day ended with a trip to Arromanches cinema where we watched a film taking us back in time to imagine what life was like in Normandy during those dark days. When we returned to Caen, Rozina was kind enough to recommend us a place to eat and a trip to Pegasus Bridge the following day, Unfortunately, we didn't go due to time and travel limitations but instead visited Bayeux, which is also worth a visit. Merci beaucoup pour une journee excellente! Jill and Simon

My son and I visited the museum on a day trip down from Paris through parislink.com. Our guide, Laura, was one of the best guides I have ever met. My son and I are both history buffs and know a lot about D-Day and WWII. Laura did not so much teach us something knew, but helped us synthesize what we knew into a more cohesive whole. She quickly understood our knowledge of the facts and moved on to giving us a greater understanding, beyond the facts and timelines. It was exactly what one hopes to experience when booking a guide. Kudos also to the creators of this museum. I have never experienced a museum whose physical plant was so extraordinarily geared to enhancing the experience and understanding of the subject matter. I might not have realized how it was being done without Laura's explanation, but a visitor cannot help but be impacted by the museum itself. This was an extraordinary museum filled with thoughtful, nuanced presentations that should be on any history buff's bucket list and on any thinking person's must do list.

We toured March 2020 and our tour guide (Laura) was fantastic. We definitely recommend this tour for a nice overview.
