Pasticceria Linari

Start your morning in true Italian style with coffee and pastries in a bakery that serves as the meeting point for locals all over the neighborhood.

Testaccio market

Following a typical Roman’s daily routine, you’ll make your way to the local market. While there, you’ll meet a few of the passionate vendors—some of whom have had their stalls for 40 years. Try incredible local pizza, farm-fresh vegetables, and artisanal cheeses and cured meats. You’ll also enjoy a sandwich from a stall that locals can’t stop talking about—and revisiting time and time again.

Mattatoio

(Pass by)

A 19th-century slaughterhouse that employed many Romans and led to the rise of the modern neighborhood.

Testaccio

After the market, it's time for lunch. You’ll head to a family-run trattoria to try pasta with true local roots paired with Italian red wine. As you eat, your guide will give you a crash course in Italian mealtimes.

Monte Testaccio

(Pass by)

Between each foodie stop, your local guide will point out important landmarks, including an Ancient Roman archaeological site. This mountain of broken pottery is a testament to the neighborhood's commercial roots.

Delightful morning with yummy food, great weather and easy company. Under the expert guidance of Chiara (with helpful assistance from Alex and Lou) we experienced multiple breakfasts including café with exquisite cake, followed by prosciutto and cheese tasting before a wonderful slow cooked beef panini at local market! All food specialities detailed by Chiara. After a short walk with local historical sites again detailed by Chiara it was off to sit down lunch with local owner detailing wine and food. Further historical sites were visited and finally finishing with Gelato - Yum! Excellent and well done Chiara, Alex and Lou.

We loved the Testaccio Neighborhood Food Tour with Market Visit (run by Devour Tours) with Rhianne. The market and surrounding area is a wonderful place to wander and explore. Even better with a fantastic guide. She really knows the area and has a wonderful way of sharing its amazing history. The food samples were well thought out and very memorable. It covered Linari (marritozzo and cappucino), Dar Artenio (pizza), Pizzicheria da Fabio (Prosciutto), Silvia (clementines), Mordi & Vai (veal & artichoke sandwich), Checchino (rigatoni in oxtail ragu & wine), and Il Panificio Passi (wine biscuits). I’d love to do it again!

Chiara was a fabulous guide. She was so knowledgeable and friendly. We felt like we had a real understanding of food culture in Rome - away from the traditional tourist spots. We tasted so many different foods and Chiara explained the proud history and connection people in Testaccio had with their culture and the way they prepared and shared their food. We could not recommend this tour more highly and Chiara was fantastic.

I can’t say enough good things about this experience!!! Silvia was the best!! We had a very small group so we got a lot of personal time to ask questions. We also did the evening foodie tour and both are excellent but very different experiences. We loved and enjoyed both tours with Silvia. She is the BEST!!! She is a locale and full of great information.

Our guide Manuela - we cannot say enough praise for her!! Manu is the BEST!! She is so passionate and knowledgeable about the area and food. She guided us like we were good friends and allowed us to enjoy the amazing tastes of this area and teach us the history as well. Absolutely one of the best tours I have ever been on. We are going to tell all our friends to do this tour and ask for Manuela!

Manuela was an amazing host, she gave us lots of fun facts about Roman food and family traditions. All the food stops were excellent, and the Testaccio neighborhood a very pleasant surprise! I would definitely recommend this tour!

My friend and I joined 3 other American couples on a Saturday morning tour. The guide and participants were all on time an we started promptly @ 10AM. We started at a coffee place which was full of locals. We then walked to the Mercato and stopped at 5 or 6 shops/stalls to enjoy their products, cheese, wine, meats, breads and sandwiches. We then walked to lunch which was excellent, a tasting more than a full meal, and finished with a short walk for gelato. Our guide was Aurelio, and he was excellent. At lunch, 2 of the group started to use their knives to cut their pasta. Aurelio couldn't have been nicer or more diplomatic, but was adamant that this was bad manners and was not going to be done at our table. One of the ladies thought he was kidding, but soon got the message and we al enjoyed 3 different pasta dishes w/o knives.

I would highly recommend this tour! Anna Maria our tour guide was fantastic and it was great to be in a less touristy part of Rome. We loved the pastry stop for breakfast, the busy market and lunch at a family-owned restaurant. We had 12 in our group which worked out fine but a smaller number would be ideal. A great experience!
