After several days on the beach, we were looking for a change of pace and found Gola di Gorropu. With several options to hike the gorge, we decided to drive to the base camp -- only 30 minutes from Cala Gonone -- and were really glad that we did. The staff at base camp was super helpful in explaining the several routes and trails to see the gorge as well as other nearby trails. We opted for the jeep + hike option. While we love a tough hike, our littlest one (age 7) wasn't up for a longer hike. This 3-ish hour hike starts with a bouncy ride in an rugged old Range Rover across the valley rim and down a track that might feel a little harrowing to anyone who is afraid of heights. From the drop off point, you hike about 2 miles to the gorge itself. The gorge is staffed with a small team that will provide the basics of the park and helmets if so inclined. Our kids loved scaling the rocks and running through the open areas of the gorge. Then afterwards we spent an hour cooling off in the nearby freshwater pools. We did this in August so it was super hot, but we loved the experience and the combo of the beautiful views, challenging hike and refreshing pools makes this hike one we won't soon forget. Do not forget to wear appropriate hiking shoes/boots with good tread, bring water (more than you think you'll need), and wear a swimsuit if you think you'll take a dip.

It is really worth it! We took a tour with Campo Base Gorropu. We paid 25 EUR for a jeep drive down to the canyon. Then you take a 3km easy walk to the canyon. The canyon has 5 EUR entry. The canoyn is devided into 3 parts, the easiest / medium and hard one. The hard one is only for professional use. The other two are OK to climb but I really recommend enough water and hard shoes, as you have to climb over really slippery stones. When you go back from the canyon, you can visit little "pools", walk the 3km road back and the jeep gets you back to the top. A really nice experience !! See pics.

Beautiful gorge, as is the route (downhill only) to get there from the Ghenna and Silana pass. Very knowledgeable and super passionate guide.

Super ballade.
