Bright Side of Lisbon - Gift Shop

Cross the Ponte 25 de Abril suspension bridge is one of Lisbon’s most notable landmarks as it spans the River Tagus at the narrowest point. This massive bridge closely resembles that of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and the date name remembers the Portuguese Carnation Revolution of 25 April 1974. The suspension bridge connects Lisbon, on the north bank, with the commuter districts of Alameda on the south bank. The bridge is a distinctive landmark of Lisbon and crossing the Ponte 25 de Abril bridge makes for a fantastic entrance to Lisbon.

Santuario Nacional de Cristo Rei

The statue of the Santuário do Cristo-Rei, one of the most emblematic monuments of the 20th century, can be found in Almada. Built in 1959, it is 110 metres high and offers a unique view over the capital and the Tagus estuary. Inspired by the Cristo Redentor monument in Rio de Janeiro, the figure of Christ opens its arms to Lisbon and receives hundreds of tourists, as well as pilgrims. The Costa de Caparica, one of the most popular beach destinations in the region, can be found on what is known by the people of Lisbon as "the other side" or the "south bank".

Jose Maria de Fonseca

Visit Built Jose Maria da Fonseca wine caves built in the nineteenth century, the house was restored in 1923 by the Swiss architect, Ernesto Korrodi, and was the Soares Franco family residence until 1974. With its particularly beautiful façade and gardens, it has always been associated with the image of José Maria da Fonseca. The visit to the Museum House begins with a brief explanation of the company’s history, followed by a tour of the ancient wine cellars: Adega da Mata and Adega dos Teares Novos, where wines such as Periquita mature, and Adega dos Teares Velhos, where the oldest Setúbal Muscatels (Muscats or Moscateis) rest, some of which are true relics over 100 years old. At the end of the tour, the visitor can sample some of the wines produced by José Maria da Fonseca. When you visit our Wine Shop, you’ll be spoilt for choice for that special occasion and you can complement the wine with regional gourmet products. Tour and wine tasting included

Bacalhoa Vinhos de Portugal

Visit the headquarters of our company are situated at the Bassaqueira estate. In 1997, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal settled in this viticultural area of Azeitão, in the heart of the Setúbal Peninsula. The main building is hexagonal in shape with an innovative design and execution both for the winery itself and its offices. It is both creative and efficient, which sets off to perfection the traditional magical atmosphere of cellars where thousands of bottles and seemingly endless rows of casks are laid down for the ageing of wine. The vineyards surrounding the property are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah varieties of grapes. The wine-making centre processes grapes from the estate and also grapes from all its properties situated in the Setúbal Peninsula. This is the centre of operations for the bottling and warehousing of the finished product. It is extensive and spreads over a number of buildings, including areas for the reception of grapes and classical wine making, fermentation in barrels, warehousing, bottling preparation, bottling lines, ageing of fortified wines and ageing in bottles. In addition to these various production areas, the estate includes the company's central winery, a wine shop, various sculptures, ruins of interest, panels of hand-painted Portuguese tiles, vineyards and a lake. All these stand in magnificent gardens, outstanding features of which are the thousand-year-old olive trees. It is this harmonious diversity which renders the Bassaqueira estate unique. An absolute must to visit with tickets and wine taste included.

Sesimbra Hotel & Spa

Visit Sesimbra a delightful beach resort, which is adored by the Portuguese. The town is a popular holiday destination that offers outstanding beaches, excellent restaurants and a lively, social holiday atmosphere. Even being a bustling resort town, Sesimbra has retained its fishing heritage, with a busy fishing harbour and family run seafood restaurants, for which the town is renowned for. Along with the glorious beaches and lively nightlife, there is a surprising amount to see and do in Sesimbra, and the town makes for an enjoyable day trip from Lisbon. Lunch included in Sessimbra with sea view.

Admission Included

Cabo Espichel

Visit Cabo Espichel is the dramatic headland at the south-western tip of the Setubal Peninsula. This is an exposed coastline buffeted by strong winds and powerful seas, and is ideal for visitors who appreciate nature’s raw beauty. The Cabo Espichel was an important pilgrimage destination, and there is a unique church with attached pilgrim’s accommodation. Positioned at the top of the cliffs and protecting shipping from these dangerous cliffs is Portugal’s’ brightest lighthouse. The highly weathered cliffs have exposed two different sets of dinosaur footprints, and these are reached via the numerous hiking trails that cross the headland.

Sesimbra Hotel & Spa

Visit he Moorish castle of Sesimbra stands high above the pretty fishing village and has guarded the town since its early founding. The castle was one of the first victories for the Christian conquest of Portugal over the Moors in the 12th century and its strategic positioning was important for the defence of early Portugal. For visitors the who make the 230m climb up to the castle will be rewarded of stunning panoramic views over Sesimbra and the surrounding coastline. Inside the castle there are extensive battlements, a pretty church but most visitors simply come for the views

We really enjoyed the wine tour. Our guide, Hugo, discribed the history and country side of Portugal , the first winery was outstanding, the tour and how they did the tasting was first class. This lunch was interesting having a Portuguese fish lunch , wish we had more time to explore the village. We then traveled to an only church next to the ocean. The next winery was very old and made you feel that you were in an 1900s winery with the old barrels of wine, the tasting seemed too rushed, but we did have time to sample the wines. If you are lucky enough to have Hugo as your guide he will make the tour great. He is friendly fluent in English and seems to be able to answer any question. By the end of the tour you felt like you were being taken around by an old friend.

Multiple issues with this tour, booked through Viator. We booked a private tour for 2. At the last minute 3 additional people were added to our booking. Our pickup was 1 1/2 hours later than we were told. And then we had to drive another 30 minutes to pick up the 3 additional travelers who were added. Side note: they had also booked a private tour. We were all told in a last minute email the night before that there had been a double booking. Didn’t buy that line. The tour guide brought along his girlfriend for the day. On a tour where the customer is paying for a private tour - there absolutely should not be anyone else tagging along for the day to keep the tour guide company. So, 7 adults were stuffed into a small, and poorly maintained car that would barely be comfortable for 4 passengers. We should have been travelling in a larger touring van. The driver didn’t know where he was going and frequent arguments in Portuguese with his girlfriend ensued about directions. The guide was an aggressive driver and constantly drove in excess of the speed limit, passing in no passing zones, and with complete disregard for any other vehicle or pedestrian in his way. The winery tours were very brief, as we were constantly late for our bookings due to the tour guide’s late pickup of us in the morning. He took us to a castle, which was closed on that date. He should have known what was open to visit on our day of travel. Lunch at the beach was to have been included. However we were presented with a bill for our desserts, and the family that were traveling with us had to pay for their meal as two of them didn’t eat seafood (nothing was stated about this in the description of the tour). We were promised a visit to the Christo Rei statue on our return to Lisbon, but by the time we were returning, we were told “Too bad, it’s to late to go now because it’s closed”. In any case, by that time we were desperate to get back to our hotel and to end the worst tour experience we have ever been subjected to. I would never recommend this tour company and I certainly wouldn’t recommend booking anything through Viator as they have been extremely dismissive in our requests to issue a full refund. I’m giving this tour a “1” rating, only because I’m not able to give anything less.

There were ups and downs with the tour.
The car arrived late and despite marketed as a private tour, there were others in the van and not just our group 6 persons.
Our guide Joao was a pleasant man, knowledgable but not very informative if one did not put questions to him. Great driver though.
There should have been included three vineyards of which one was cancelled. The first one, Bacalhoa, had a museum part with sculptures, ceramic tiles and an amazing collection of art deco and art noveau furnitures and objects. Fortunately we had had Bacalhoa's better wines in restaurants because at the tasting they just served 3 wines from the cheap end. The second vineyard, Jose Maria de Fonseca was interesting with a good guide, but with many groups at the same time and with the same comment about the the wines.
The luch restaurant was in Sesimbra perfectly situated at the sea shore.
Conclusion: If you are interested in wines, this is not the trip for you. If you are interested in old Potuguese ceramic tiles and furniture, Bacalhoa is definitely worth a visit.
