Head to the mystic mountain of Montserrat. This natural park, with its very peculiar peaks, protects the spiritual essence of Catalonia. For almost 1,000 years, a Benedictine community has lived in these mountains located 60 km away from Barcelona. On the way, listen to some interesting stories about Catalonia and its bounding to the holy mountain, scene of pilgrims since ancient times and part of the route to Santiago de Compostela. Your guide will share important information to understand the heritage you will discover during the tour.

Montana de Montserrat

The Rocky Massif of Montserrat has been declared as Natural Park in 1987, and characterised by the rounded shape of its peaks. This incredible 4000-foot wonder is easily recognisable by its ''serrated'' top from which it got his name. Once you reach the monastery, you have plenty of options and your guide will always adjust to your interests. We invite you to take an easy walk of around 30 min to enjoy one of the most astonishing views of the natural park, but if you wish you can also decide to enjoy other activities that the mountain offers.

Abadia de Montserrat

Visit the Basilica of Montserrat, house of the serene image of the Virgin of Montserrat, the patron saint of Catalonia, a polychrome Romanesque carving dating from the 12th century. The legend says that in the year 880 some shepherd boys found a statue of the black madonna, the "Moreneta", in a grotto. A chapel was built on this site that soon became a place of pilgrimage.

Sant Jeroni

Reach the peak of the holy mountain to enjoy a bird's eye view of the entire Montserrat Monastery and of the natural park. On clear days, you will enjoy uninterrupted views of the whole of Catalunya.

Santa Cueva de Montserrat

Since the funicular that brings you to this holy place is under revision, we leave the option to you. If you feel like walking for around 30 min, you can have access to the Holy Cave, where, standing to the legend, the virgin is said to have appeared. The site has, since then, become an authentic center for pilgrimage and prayer. From there, you will also be able to see the Cross of San Miguel and the wonderful views from this side of the mountain. End your tour listening to the angelic voices of La Escolania de Montserrat, one of the oldest boys' choirs in Europe (subject to seasonal availability). This musical treat will conclude your mystical Montserrat visit.

Pablo was a great tour guide! He was very knowledgeable about Montserrat, Barcelona and the history of the region. We enjoyed his company and learning from him as we drove and walked thru Montserrat. He had excellent tips on navigating the area, using the funicular and hiking back down to get the most out of our time there. We had a wonderful day with Pablo and would certainly refer friends and family to him when they travel to Barcelona!

My husband and I booked a private tour w hotel pickup and Adele did not disappoint ! We were promptly picked up by a vibrant and knowledgable tour guide and lovely driver, who spoke a multitude of languages as well as having vast knowledge of everything Barcelona and Monserrat . The monastery was about an hour outside the city, up high in the mountain. Adele educated us on the history and religious significance of the site, making our drive more enjoyable . As the tour came to an end we were able to choose between climbing the mountain midway to see the cross of Christ or take the cable car. I opted to hike and Adele was such an amazing sport she joined us for the adventure while snapping pics and making us laugh the whole way through . All and all …I highly recommend this tour . It was worth every penny and was a wonderful experience I will never forget ❤️ thank you so much !!!

This is an amazing tour! Montserrat is not to be missed. Our tour guide Dulce was fantastic. She was very knowledgable about the history of Montserrat and its surroundings. She also was a 10 at navigating the crowds and lines which gave us the maximum amount of time in the monastery and surrounding area. Absolute excellent tour!
