The Alhambra

(Pass by)

Private tour of the spectacular Alhambra Palace with private English-speaking official guide to give you a wonderful insight of the history and culture of this spectacular place. / / On this 130 km journey day trip to Granada. We will visit the Alhambra palace and its courtyards which were built for the last Moorish Emirs in Spain, for the ruling Nasrid dynasty. After the Cristian reconquest by the Catholic Monarchs, Isabella and Ferdinand in 1492, some sections of the Alhambra palace were used by the Christian Monarchy. Their Grandson Charles V, who was the Holy Roman Emperor in 1527, ruling much of Europe, built a palace that was inserted inside the Alhambra and within the old fortifications of the Nazarid Palaces. Then afterwards for centuries, the Alhambra was allowed to fall into disrepair as well as being badly destroyed by Napoleon troops. The Alhambra was rediscovered in the19th century by European and American scholars and travellers.

From our pick up drive from Malaga to Granada we knew we were in for a wonderful experience. Our Guide Simon was just great and bubbled with enthusiasm and brought the palaces alive with his take on history and events. We walked and talked for 4 hours and explored all of the palaces and gardens before being dropped off in Granada for an hour or two before our drive back. A great day.

The guide was excellent. We spent almost 4 hours and hit the highlights. We moved quickly, yet long enough at each stop to understand the details. He took great pictures too!!

This was my third time visiting the Alhambra, but the first time for my wife and kids. First off, the Alhambra is well worth your time. It is one of my favourite places to visit in all of Spain and my family felt the same. I have visited it in small groups and in large groups and the experience is very different. The small group setting is so much more rewarding. You can really talk to your guide and you don't have all the difficulties of managing a large group as you make your way through the site. Our specific guide, Simon, was terrific. Really informative and engaging. You learned a lot and had a fun time doing it. He was also very good at pacing the tour. We could not have asked for a better guide. Indeed, some other visitors overheard our guide and as we were moving to another room said "Your guide is great! We asked him for his business card." My guides during my prior visits were good, but Simon was the best. Our driver spoke very little English so we didn't get any commentary on the drive from Malaga to Grenada, but that was fine. He did what he needed to do. He picked us up on time at our Airbnb and he got us safely to the Alhambra on time. After the tour, Simon talked to him and gave him instructions to drive us through parts of Granada with a couple of stops which was nice. The drive back to our Airbnb was all good and the driver was friendly and capable. No complaints at all. Overall, we were very happy with this tour. I would strongly recommend it.

We arranged this private tour for two from our cruise ship. Jonathan picked us up promptly in a lovely Mercedes wagon and drove us to Alhambra. We chatted about the countryside and such during our drive. Once at Alhambra, Jonathan turned us over to Simon, our guide for the day. I can’t say enough about Simon’s love for this piece of his heritage. He was an expert and interesting guide. He shared stories and information about the palace and its history we couldn’t have found anywhere else. As well, his English is completely fluent, so we never had to ask him to repeat something we didn’t understand. He also took multiple pics of us in his favorite spots that we can add to our memories. I would entirely recommend this tour and these guides for anyone sailing into Malaga and wishing to visit Alhambra Palace. Don’t worry for a moment that this tour not booked through your cruise line is any risk at all. We left the ship on time and returned as scheduled.

Maria was an excellent tour guide! She had so much knowledge to share, answered all our questions and even gave us excellent advice on the best times and places to take pictures. It was like going with a friend who knows all the best parts of Alhambra.

Our group of six had a wonderful time on our tour to the Alhambra. Manu the driver picked us up directly from our Airbnb house and meeting the tour guide in Granada was easy. Mirian was so knowledgeable and we understood why she called herself an "Alhambra freak." She helped us make the most of our visit and we felt like we had a real insider's view of all the best and most beautiful spots of the Alhambra. It was a wonderful experience we will treasure!

This was a great tour. We were two families of four. Our driver Mohammad was a very good driver and made our drive a s comfortable as possible. Our guide Simon was incredibly helpful and informative. He helped take great pictures and provided helpful tips. It was an extremely hot day and making sure we skipped the lines and found cool places to rest was essential to keeping everyone in good spirits. He was very engaging and kept the teenagers and the adults entertained. Highly recommend this tour.

We had to scramble to get a tour in Málaga after a last-minute change in our cruise itinerary. This tour operator responded promptly and was able to find us coveted, short-notice tickets to tour The Alhambra. Our guide at the facility was fantastic (Simon) and as a native of Granada he was able to bring the special place to life. In addition, the driver and transport were also first-rate. Thank you.

TOURING STRATEGY: The NCL Epic was in port in Malaga from 7 am – 8 pm. The drive to and from Granada for the Alhambra Tour takes approx. 1:45 each way. The Alhambra requires timed entry advance tickets, so you must book well in advance (1-3 months, depending on whether you go during low or high season). Vipmalagatours.com was selected for a small group private tour. Altogether there were 10 pax in a 16 pax minibus with a private guide. 105 Euros pp, including Alhambra admission. Tour: 5 STARS Guide (Victor) 5 STARS Vipmalagatours (Mark) PROMPTLY answered all questions and made the booking exceptionally easy. Since this was a private tour, the travelers were known before the ship arrived in port. We met at the agreed meeting place and exited the ship together. Victor met us at the port gate and we left the port before other tour groups (7:30 am). We arrived in Granada before our timed entry so we had time for a comfort break and an orientation talk of the Alhambra complex before entering the monument. ALHAMBRA: STUNNING. The finest example of surviving Moorish architecture in the world. This complex was built on a grand scale and was the capital of Moorish Spain. It was the last Moorish stronghold conquered by Ferdinand and Isabella in 1492. What is even more amazing than the architecture is the fact that NO SUCCEEDING CHRISTIAN RULER EVER DECIDED TO DEFACE THE ELEGANT ARCHITECTURE IN THE 500+ YEARS SINCE THE CHRISTIAN CONQUEST. The palace is richly decorated and full of surprises. MUST SEE if in southern Spain. GENERALIFE GARDENS: Completely separate from the palace grounds are the Generalife Gardens. Incredibly beautiful and also a Must See. There are plant covered arbors that create tunnels and hidden spaces. There are a wide variety of mosaics in the sidewalks. Every turn reveals another pleasant visual surprise. SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO VICTOR, OUR GUIDE. ASK FOR HIM BY NAME IF YOU BOOK AN ALHAMBRA TOUR.

Our experience with Mark at VIP Malaga Tours was great. When our cruise ship arrived in Malaga, our driver was waiting for us at the exit of the terminal and his brand new Mercedes van was parked curbside right outside the building. He drove us to the Alhambra (and he was a very good drive and nice young man), where our private and friendly tour guide, Miriam C., led us on an informative 4-hour private tour at our pace.
