We arranged this visit for the family, two grandparents, one with some mobility problems, two 40 year old children, and a teen granddaughter. The tour started on time, and even though we asked the guide not to whizz off like a greyhound, we were left lagging behind on the overground stops. When we reached the entrance to the underground part, which was down a very steep, uneven cobbled hill off the Royal Mile, we discovered that you had to step up via a very high step, which my wife just could not cope with. The family carried on without us, but us grandparents had to abandon the tour. I couldn't find anything that mentioned the access restriction in the guide. The kids enjoyed the tour, but we were very disappointed as it meant two tickets were wasted. The fact is that had we known about the access restriction for impaired mobility visitors, we would not have booked this tour. My advice is, if you can't negotiate a high step of probably 15 to 18 inches, please don't book this trip.

Our Tour Guide today was James. He was very energetic, friendly and entertaining throughout the tour! Very likeable guide who Engaged and informed and had some great snippets of history knowledge to keep your mindset in the past.

Dom was a phenomenonal guide. Some of the stories he told us were chilling. Especially worth it for some of the rooms inside the vault.

The underground vault tour was led by Eric, who did a nice job, he was knowledgeable and funny, but it was not as exciting as I had hoped.

This was a fascinating glimpse into Edinburghs past! As a connected person, there was a good level of being uncomfortable with the spirits that remain. Shortly after I left this tour, a bruise in the form of a handprint was noted to have grabbed my left arm.

We booked the Vault tour as a last minute plan for me and my 10yr old son visiting Edinburgh for the day. I have to say I absolutely loved it! My son is a little on the scared side when it comes to dark places but he did really well. Have the tour is walking through the streets telling you about the history of the city and how the vaults were created and then the last half was inside the vaults. Our tour guide Eric was fantastic! Really passionate and informative and made us feel really welcome particularly my son. I would completely recommend this tour for anyone looking for something to fill some time. My son now shouts ‘gardyloo’ rather than announcing he is going for a poo :) thanks for that Eric :)

Deva was our guide and she was fantastic. Just the right amount of fun and spooky and set a great mood for our tour. The cemetery was interesting and we got a nice history of the Coventanters and George MacKenzie, plus some ghost stories in for good measure. The vaults were spooky. It is hard to believe people lived there at one point in the dark and the damp. It is a must see. Don't miss this tour! Well worth it for anyone who loves bits of dark history.
