Guided tour of the city of Alberobello

I Trulli di Alberobello - World Heritage Site

The trulli of Alberobello in Puglia are famous all over the world, a UNESCO heritage site since 1996. Their charm is linked to a mysterious origin, an esoteric symbology and an incredibly current eco-sustainable architecture.

Trullo Sovrano

The largest trullo in the town is called Trullo Sovrano. This two-storey building is used as a museum and it is possible to visit the interior, furnished according to the taste of the period, reconstructed through the testimonies of the older inhabitants of Alberobello. Trullo Sovrano is located in the northern part of Alberobello, behind the Church of Santi Medici Cosma e Damiano. It represents the only trullo to have a raised floor, reachable from the inside via a masonry staircase, among the first to be built with mortar.

The location was great- the travel to get there was awful, our driver parked far away up and down hills to get to the tour which was also up and down hills. Every other driver parked in the lot near the location. He gave us no information and we did not even know we were going to meet someone else and a whole group that would do the tour.

The guides on both tours were very informative and gave great answers to any of our questions . They explained and pointed out so many interesting sites. The time given was ideal and allowed us to enjoy what turned out to be a very long day but well worth it.

It was great to get to see both Alberobello and Matera in the same day and the tour guides at each stop were very informative. The only issue with the trip was that it was advertised as a 9:30am start/meeting time, however I was emailed the day before to meet at 8:00am. This caused some issues with a couple in the group who did not receive the email. There also could have been more information given en route to each location as the drive was long. Otherwise a very worthwhile trip if you are hoping to visit both of these places.

MATERA was such a unique city. So beautiful with a dark past. Albero Bello was so charming and cute. Our guide Ingo was super informative and helpful.

I booked the tour through Viator. They arranged the tour through a local provider and charged my card. The day before I contacted Viator request cost of hotel pickup and they foward a response from the local tour operator. Luckily we arranged our own transportation to the local operators office, a 35 minute ride. When we got there the local operator said there was no tour. If we waited an hour they could get driver to take us on half a tour. We said no and wanted a full refund. Still waiting as they said it would take 3-5 days. We wasted a good portion of our morning and missed seeing both Matera and Albarello

We loved the tours in both cities. And our driver was very nice and patient. Our only complaint is that there was no communication about what was happening. We just showed up and got in a van and went. The driver is not the tour guide. He just takes you to the cities to meet up with actual guides. We wish we had more of a heads up about how that all works and the timing of it all. Other than that a fantastic day!

Sites amazing, Francesco a kind and enthusiastic guide, explained well and showed us very interesting sites.
