What a fantastic place! Totally dog-friendly, we even got a bandana and dog treats on the way in! Free to walk around the extensive and beautiful grounds of the castle. We didn't have time to go into the other areas (only open at certain times) but were told they were also dog-friendly. Stunning views as well, and lovely people on site. Top class.

Had a great ½ day out, paid to visit both towers and Jewish sector, although you can visit the grounds free of charge. Learned a lot from our visit, the staff are knowledgeable and the grounds are well kept. We had something to eat in the restaurant for lunch, we were surprised how good the food was and how cheap considering they have a captive audience. Pleased we went to visit as we usually only see it from the A7.

Very well organised with knowledgeable staff who were helpful and happy to impart the history of the castle and area. Good value for the cost. Please note, this is NOT accessible or advisable for disabled. Many steps to climb inside towers to appreciate the views etc.

I made a special trip to see this site. Don’t know where I got the information that was worth the trouble. Went to the restaurant and the menu was so uninteresting and expensive we left

We thought we were signing up for a tour led by a person, not an audio-guided tour. When I called the tour operator’s number to find out the meeting location, the person who answered did not speak English (we don’t speak Spanish). We took a chance and went to the castle at the appointed time, where we were informed that there were no live tours. Each part of the castle opened at a different time. If we finished at one part early or weren’t interested in something, there was no way to go on to the next site. Although the castle was interesting, my day could have been better spent.

Wonderful scenery in tranquil setting. Great to see how well preserved the whole place is. Credit to the staff.

The towers were still closed because of the covid-19. There was not much to see. The restaurant was a rude dissapointment. We were waiting for a table to have a lunch for more than half an hour and yet two spanish speaking groups could get the table but not us because we could not speak as good spanish. We left with out eating. So if the restaurant is full and you are not spanish speaking don't bother.

The sole mountaintop both commands and isolates in an arid area thus why the ruins are largely cisterns. The tower is not as big as it looks but the position is even more commanding. A hotel below the tower adds to the complex. Tours inside the tower were highly limited due to covid and we did not go inside. The various exhibits give a fair representation of the life of the elite atop the mountain without mentioning that it was elite. Strange. The synagogue is highly overblown--merely a small foundation ruin among others inside a splashy space befitting of something truly interesting. Our lunch at the site was excellent.

This defensive fortress originally built by the Moors has been modified/expanded over the centuries. The castle stands on a hill overlooking the town of Lorca. You can reach the castle on foot (20 mins) or by taxi (less than 5 mins). Cars cannot park on the hill... but can park at the foot of the hill, in front of the tourist office. The ramparts are well preserved. The highlights are the two towers; the Espolon Tower and the Alfonsina Tower. It is possible to climb to the top of the towers and admire a breathtaking panorama. It is possible to visit the remains of the old Jewish quarter, located under the Parador hotel. This visit is included in the entrance price, but takes place according to well-defined times with a guide. During my visit, the site was very uncrowded, which made the visit very pleasant. However, it is necessary to pay attention to the schedules; the different parts of the castle cannot be visited throughout the day. The person at reception, very friendly, clearly provides information on the different visiting slots (with an explanatory plan of the castle) and if you want to see all the parts, you just have to coordinate your visit according to these slots. The audio guide is useful and comprehensive.
