Olivier is an excellent tour guide. He is very knowledgeable about the war history of the Somme valley. He knows all of the best spots, and all of the history. The private tour makes a big difference as Olivier will go at your pace. If you are thinking about doing a WW1 tour, do this one!!

Olivier was recommended to us and we are very pleased that we took up the recommendation. He provided us with an excellent tour and an extraordinary amount of information that really helped us appreciate the Somme battles. Olivier is an expert in his field and we would have no hesitation in recommending him to take others on a tour.

If you are a military history buff or simply want to pay your respects to the tens of thousands who fought on the Somme battlefields in WW1 - then we thoroughly recommend a private battlefield tour with Olivier - this day was one of the highlights of our trip to Europe. Olivier has an encyclopedic knowledge of the military history on this section of the Somme. We visited the Villers-Bretonneux memorial, could have spent hours longer at the Sir John Monash Centre. Then onto Pozieres and finally Beaumont-Hamel where the Newfoundland memorial and trench system gave us an appreciation of the horrors of the first days of the Somme Offensive. Olivier could show us where the old trench systems were located and how they changed during the course of the battle. A great experience!

We went on a guided Battlefield Tour with Olivier Dirson which was great. Olivier designed our tour to cover a number of sites specific to the Australians in WW1 being Villiers Bretonneux, Sir John Monash Centre, Lochnager Crater, Pozieres and Newfoundland Memorial. Olivier’s knowledge of the Great War is second to none and he speaks excellent English. I would thoroughly recommend Olivier and his tour for anyone who wants to go to the Western Front and have it explained in detail.

We took this tour as a family while visiting Amiens for something different and to learn more about our country's involvement in WWI on the Western Front. Olivier picked us up on time from our hotel and we enjoyed a very comfortable, low-stress and educative (Olivier is a fountain of knowledge) tour of the whole area and key sites. This proved to be a really great way to spend a day in Picardy and we would recommend.

Oliver was lovely. He made us feel very comfortable and welcome. His knowledge is amazing! My husband knew a lot about the battle of the Somme but he learnt many things from Oliver. We booked to see Villers Bretonneux not realising that Oliver was going to drive us all over the area and explain every detail of what occurred. It truly was a wonderful tour. Thanks Oliver.

Olivier provides a comprehensive door to door service and guide of the western front. Much of this could be learned from books or visiting Monash centre alone but what is provided on the tour is an appreciation of how then country side has evolved throughout the conflict into the present day. Witnessing sites of complete utter destruction supported by maps of trenches from 1916, gps position and photographs gives this real context.

What Olivier Dirson does not know about the WW1 campaigns of the Somme & Western Front is not worth knowing. His knowledge is exceptional & his ability to explain & describe the conditions, participants & battles that raged across this now pristine landscape is exceptional. Olivier uses WW1 trench maps & photographs with current GPS technology to reconstruct how these campaigns raged across this landscape of fields, pastures, ridges, valleys & villages. I had read the accounts but now I have a clear understanding that written words fall short in conveying. I highly recommend this very personalised experience with Olivier.

This was a fantastic tour, with just two of us in the car and Oliver our driver/tourer guide was absolutely brilliant. We were so fortunate to be taken and shown the RIBEMONT Communal Cemetery to see one of our relatives Norman Oscar Spence who was part of the third division’s 23rd Machine Gun Battalion, who was killed in action, after being sent to fight in Heilly near Villers Bretonneaux. This day tour, along with seeing so many other places, l will never forget.
